Q: Will Facebook ever come back to China?

Will Facebook ever return to China? Would they ever agree to whatever conditions the government imposes? Or, with the domination of Weibo and Renren, would they just not care?

After last year proved to the world what a non controlled social network could do... China will not allow FB to come back.  And with Weibo and Renren already filling the void, the competition already established would further discourage FB from being willing to make "changes" to be "China friendly."

Probably not.  China blocks it and other sites for multiple reasons.  The main one is "social harmony", but the secondary and just as important reason is so they can prop up the Chinese social networking sites that wouldn't stand a chance if the western bigboys were allowed on the playground.

They have done the same thing with lots of other industries as well.  Movies, animation, cars, etc...  All blocked for more financial reasons than social ones.

there are 2 important reasons why the gov banned facebook. 1 . competition (if your home grown companies cant beat them , ban them) 2. the free exchange of ideas goes against everything this gov stands for

so the ban will never be lifted by this gov

If Facebook would agree to censor Chinese citizens' content, then yes, FB would be allowed in China. But I dont think Fb will go the same route as Twitter and concede to censoring.
