Q: Will Haier ever be a big brand in North America and Europe?

They actually do make good stuff in my experience. I think they'd have to change that creepy logo though.

Haier is already very, very present in North America, just not perhaps under its own name.  The company owns so many major American companies that have gone under over the years -- Maytag comes to mind -- and it is doing relatively well in the U.S. market.

As for Europe, I can't speak to that issue.

From a website:

Haier America, founded in 1999 by CEO Michael Jemal, is the Sales and Marketing arm of the Western Hemisphere for the Haier Group. Headquartered in the Haier America Building at 1356 Broadway in New York, Haier America is a leader for room air conditioner, compact refrigerator, and wine cellar sales, as well as a leading force in home appliances, compact laundry, compact freezer and HDTV sales. Haier America is an Official Marketing Partner and the Official High Definition Television of the NBA.

"Haier America has successfully established retail and service networks across the United States. In addition, a $40 million, 110-acre Industrial Park was built in Camden, South Carolina that produces American-made refrigeration products for U.S. consumers. Haier America also has a strong sales force nationwide, bringing products to markets throughout the United States, Canada, and South America.

Haier America, known for innovation and high quality, plans to push forward to continue on its path as a driving force in the appliance industry, as well as a household name in America."

nevermind:

It owns maytag now?
