There is a lot of anger out there. Take global warming. If someone affirms it, the deniers want to lynch him and burn him at the stake. If someone denies it, the affirms want to lynch him and burn him on the stake. And if someone says that they are not sure whom to believe, then everyone wants to lynch and burn him at the stake.

This soon will make the Protestant Reformation look like a friendly debate.

While I do wish there was more civility, I am  not sure the Big Brother approach would be the best. Just delete the rudeness is what I would advise. If enough rude people are deleted, they will eventually tire and move to another site.

Just last summer we had a poster like that, resorted to extremely rude name calling, etc. He (she?) got deleted enough, s/he eventually left.

I think we are regular Boy Scouts on the Answers page compared with what I saw on the main  Page

I read some of the comments on the articles and we are pretty tame in comparison.

here we do tend to get into a frenzy once in a while and its usually but not always in response to a definite Troll or a really really dumb Question 

and lets face it Drunk posting happens and the Bad China day takes it's toll also

the Cat who moderates us here does a good job in keeping us in line even if sometimes we think we did nothing wrong.

treat it as the same as you would any other media

if it upsets you move on or make a stand

If you honestly need a mod to be your mommy and daddy and protect you from the world of essentially-anonymous text that can never harm you, you belong in China, the capital of strictly-enforced bubbles of delusion. As far as I can tell, this country and culture exists entirely to reinforce the fantasies of a small percentage of angry and insecure Chinese males.

The only time I've complained to a mod here was on 180 and Trav, because they flagged every post I made, and bragged when cat deleted ("Daddy cat loves me the most. I'm his special little guy!!"), and watching their posts get deleted was hilarious. Good times.

Most open comment sections with a lot of traffic will end up being a cesspit. Do yourself a favor: if you don't like it, don't read the comments. You can't take it too seriously as it is. If you have something worth saying, then write it and get out of there. If you like trolling, then join in on the "fun." There are plenty of serious and professional forums online if that's what you like. Sure, this site could ask us to verify with a certificate. Guess how many would actually bother. Would you? That would kill this site. You don't even need to go through that much effort to verify on Weibo.

i am not a current expat  so how would it work for me, even if i was willing to give a site with Chinese over site my personal info.

the main site does have moderation. but it is a daunting task. 

that being said i wish people would learn to live with the fact that there are people in the world who think differently, are rude, offensive. this is the real world that we live in. it should not be edited because someone has thin skin. one of the great things about the internet is the freedom.  people can be who they really want to be posting anon . polite society forces us to be something different in order to fit in. if someone has ignorant ideas why should they have to hide it? now there will be some people who use the freedom of the internet to try and say silly stuff just to get attention, so what. it is just words typed on to a webpage. it is not going to hurt you. it is not going going to change your thinking. grow up be a big boy/girl about it and ignore them.
