Q: Will train travel ever get rid of the 10-day ticket limit?
Just wondering what you all think. Will we see this happening in our lifetime, or with Spring Festival, will it always be this way?

I wish. And it's even worse than 10 days for some routes/areas, especially if you live at the end of a popular route. For example, if I want to purchase a train ticket to go from Ningbo to Shanghai, I have to wait until the DAY BEFORE TRAVEL. Cannot buy a ticket before then...
Chinese don't plan as we do! I don't understand that, especially at buying train tickets in China.
If you would like to have soft seat ticket, you should purchase your ticket in China at least 30 days before departure.
Chinese buy train tickets one day before departure, and if there is only 'standing' ticket available, you can always buy portable fishing chair at Train station.
In June, I tried to purchase train ticket Hangzhou - Anshan well in advance. Salesperson showed me long info in Chinese on the top of the counter. I could read only number 15 from the whole text. I was guessing, I must be too early for purchasing the ticket.
However, I called my GF, and after she had a talk with sales person at the counter, she said I can purchase ticket 10 days before departure.
I want train ticket with departure on July 11th, 2012. I returned to the ticket counter on July 1st. I still couldn't buy ticket.
I had to return next day to the ticket counter, when I was finally able to purchase hard seat ticket with departure on June 11th.
Because, 7/11 - 7/1 = how many days before departure is that????
