Q: Is a work permit valid if you haven't gotten the Z visa yet?

Hi everyone,

I've been offered a position at a school, they have gotten the work permit and will send me the documentation to apply for the Z visa but I have recently been offered a better position. Is the work permit that has been issued by the first school valid if I haven't applied for and gotten the Z visa yet? I am wondering if this will pose a problem if the new school applies for a new work permit.

Thank you.

Which ever Z visa from which ever company gets into your passport first is the company that you must fully apply with. It doesn't matter that they're applying for the work permit as of now.

The work permit you have is tied to the school who applied for it.   They went to the Government on your behalf and asked for permission to employ you.

It's effectively a letter from a local Government department saying they have approved  your skills as being good enough to get a Z visa,  and that they will issue you an FEC when you get here.

If you decide to go with a different school, then the new school has to go apply for another letter on your behalf.

When you go to the consulate to  apply for your Z visa, your papers need to be in order or they will reject your application. And you don't want rejections on your record.

If I were you I would go with the first offer, do your contract and look for a better position after.... if you like it and want to stay here of course.

If the person giving you the second offer says it's ok to use the original letter.... well.... big red flag.

Just be careful of scams etc. Don't think of your job as a "position". Think of it as a job.

And try to get in touch with people who have jobs with the same school.

Best of luck wink
