I can work at sh/t school but with good boss,or at good school with shi/ boss what would you take
Good school with shit boss, especially in China, as most bosses seem to just show up to work once a month to cash their paychecks anyway. There's a centimetre of dust on my boss's desk and I would consider him one of the more attentive ones.
What kind of shit boss is this, though? Micheal Scott or Hitler or just a greedy bastard or what?
paulmartin:
Just someone who doesnt care about students, not really a bad person just interested in money
kchur:
To be honest, that's every Chinese principal I've met. At this point I'm willing to look the other way on that if everything else is fine. It sounds awful but there's not much you can do about it here. :/
paulmartin:
I think im still in the awful stage, should we really drop are morals too, then the shit just takes over i dont know?
kchur:
Yeah, I know how you feel. I've been thinking about leaving the country, honestly. I've worked at a few schools here, looking for one that works for me but there's always some kind of terrible compromise.
paulmartin:
Me too about leaving China, but i really like the students who try, they give you hope and strength about putting together a real English lesson that works for them
I'd also go with the good school. I almost never see my boss. I think I've seen him....twice? Once during a car ride and a dinner, and again for literally 10 seconds. Even though I'm not a good teacher (yet, I hope to change that, I'm getting better) I've had basically the best experience I could have. I mean, there's always the normal downsides, like adjusting to the culture and many of the students just don't give a crap. Still, even if they don't care about my class, or don't understand what I'm saying, most of them like me. The ones that do like talking to me are great, they're very sweet and I can relate to them, since they're only a few years younger than me.
If you're boss is about the money, like kchur said, that's...normal? What I really wish I could have a class about is writing, since that was my major. I feel like a duck out of water with oral English.
GuilinRaf:
Sadly, it will be very challenging to get a job teaching written English, as most schools see having a native speaker as too valuable an asset to "waste" in any non-oral classes. Be as it may, I hope that you become the exception to the rule! Good luck!
