Q: Work visa issue
Hello everyone! I had a very unpleasant experience at the beginning of this year. As you all know, there was a few months lockdown in Shanghai. During the lockdown, my employer screwed me up by announcing bankrupcy and running away with the money he owed to his employees. However, money wasn't a big deal, the big deal was my work permit/visa he didn't manage to deal with. For now, I have no contact with him, because he ran away or left the country. I had to come back home due to my visa was about to expire. The question is, is there any chance to ask for authorities to recover papers or give me a permission to apply for a new work permit without a release letter or other papers that I needed?

Try and find out which Chinese .gov organisation replaced SAFEA at the latest Labour law novelty in 2017.
We use to call it 'Foreign Expert Bureau' or SAFEA (State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs), but that Chinese gov. org. isn't active anymore.
They issued Working permits and other documents for laowai working in China, and they should answer questions you have.
You also might try and ask at the Chinese embassy in your home country.
