Q: Working in Chinese company - no intellectual challenge?

I'm obviously generalizing, but do you feel, from personal experience and those of friends, that there's so much less room to maneuver and make a difference in a Chinese company. Hierarchic system hinders any creativity, employees are afraid of disagreeing with superiors even though their ideas could very well be amazing...

Just seems like intellectually, it's a lot less stimulating working in China.

Are companies like Baidu, Sina Weibo, etc. much more forward thinking in that respect?

Any company that has a large bureaucracy makes it difficult to do anything that will show a significant achievement regardless of the country the company is in.

It all depends on the management type and how open they are to quick action and taking risks.

If you really want to have an impact, it is probably better to work for a startup rather than an established entity.
