Q: Working for Chinese state media - can you ever find a proper media job after?

Does working for a censored media system like the state owned one in China make it more difficult for people to obtain a proper media job outside of China afterwards?

say, an expat who works a year or two for global times, or CCTV and then tries to find a job in a newspaper in the Great Britain or the U.S. Would that past experience actually be detrimental?

I was recently asking about media jobs in Nanning and so far no answers but as someone who sometimes works in media in the West (mostly radio) I don't see a big problem and it could even been seen as some kind of advantage. They might be intrigued by this and find you to have an interesting angle or 'view' and you might even be MORE diligent (vigilant) and keen to spot certain things such as 'government spin'.

The only 'downside' I could imagine is that some might be curious if you were (and still are) a dedicated red-book carrying Party faithful who might take THEIR information sources and be feeding it back to China. Basically - a kind of media 'spy' for the Chinese government.
