Sorry folks and this has probably been asked loads of times. I have been in China since Jan'10 working until my contract ended in April'11. I was on a residential Z visa. At this time I am looking for work in China and currently living here on a tourist L visa. As I have no current employeer is there a visa that I can apply for which will allow me to work should I suddenly get a job or do i need them to help me get another Z visa?
I am going back to the UK in December and if no alternative I will need to get a tourist visa. My concern is that this will put potential employeers off employing me,

There is no visa that will allow you to "suddenly work for someone". All work visas must be sponsored by a China based company.
However, a company can (with the proper connections) turn your L visa into a work visa pretty easily should you get a job working with them.
Most jobs start on a Business Visa while the company processes your Z Visa (or suddenly deems that unnecessary if you don't insist for it!).
Get a L Visa, then you'll have to go to Hong Kong or Macau or South Korea or maybe your home country for a Business Visa.
Kaiwen:
Working on a "F" visa is just as illegal as working on a "L" visa. The organization or school that are employing you should get you the correct documentation to get a "Z" visa and this should be available from the first day that you take up employment. The organization then have the remaining time between the "Z" visa holder arriving in Mainland China and a 30 day cut off point to arrange the formalities of obtaining a Residence Permit.
yes like my sitution now..im a Filipina working here as Tutor but suddenly now im working in their house! so miserable!
