Q: Working visa renewal updates. How much I make?

Hi Guys I just wish to share my working visa renewal process, every year something pops up.. Note this only speaking for Shenzhen, China.

New stuff at the FEC ( Labor Department ):

1. Had to sign 2 new sheets.

2. One new sheet was to report how much money I made during the previous year. My passport number was there too. I heard a few of my friends had their bank accounts frozen until they showed a passport. I found out that this is tied to that sheet I sign. So they can investigate us if we have huge or an odd amount of money that's frequently being deposited and than they can compare the taxes and make sure we're not earning money on the side that should be taxed.

3. Another sheet had my American address and I had to state how many years that I've been working in the field of teaching (or whatever job) and there is a section for the school to write a letter about us and why they want to renew our contract & keep us.

Trip to the PSB interview:

1. Very Very smooth. Much better and more organized than last year.

2. I get my passport back in 9 working days. NOT 3 weeks. COOL!

3. Nobody was there, so no line to wait in, I guess Shenzhen is too expensive to work in now for new comers huh? Other guys that renewed told me the same thing. We don't have a lot of oversea workers in Shenzhen now..

Important note: This is my 7th working Visa with Wall Street. Never left, 7 years straight.. My FEC book was full, so do you know what they did? They used and stamped the "note pages" haha. So that 5 year rule about having to leave is still BullSh*t in Guangdong Province.

I just got mine now too. It was great. Make an interview appointment. No waiting at all. I pick mine up tomorrow or thursday. They told me 7 working days. But i didnt have an extra sheets or bank stuff. Who knows?

ironman510:

Maybe the company filled it out for you, not sure. Mine filled it out for me and just told me the facts and what I was signing. Yeah man, it was fast and great. NEVER was I in and out so fast, even the officer was nice and cool. Man, does this make you feel like either it's become too expensive here for new guys or it's too much of a hassle to get a new Z visa? I could guess 50 different reasons. But all the signs are there, we're short on types of employees and in all fields, ESL, IT, Engineering and more.. What's your guess?

I didn't even have to visit the PSB this year for the first time since I moved here.  Handed over my passport and FEC to my university and got both back a couple of weeks later. So clearly no new forms or bank account details for me either.

ironman510:

Maybe they signed on your behalf.. Not sure.. It's only to prove that the taxes match the salary.. If my HR signed it for me I may have never known about it. Wow sounds like Visa renewals are getting better, not having to make the trip to the PSB office sounds like heaven.

The only difference for my renewal last month was having to show tax records for the previous year. Also in GD.

ironman510:

They didn't ask me for the tax record I get every 5 months in the mail, but I know the sheet I signed for the FEC was meant only for tax reasons and my earnings were there from year 2014 to 2015 to help match it.

Maybe slightly different rules for each city. I had to provide original "stamped" records from the taxation dept for FEC and WP. Likely to be a passive way to catch people working illegally through the bank/tax details

"So that 5 year rule about having to leave is still BullSh*t in Guangdong Province." I wish that people would understand, that this 5-year rule is for 'technology workers' and not teachers.

Arrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhh...how can supposedly "educated" {not referring to the OP} people not be able to research this for themselves?

ironman510:

I think there is too much misleading information and it makes people more confused when they confuse that 5 year rule with that other 5 year world wide income tax law. Than you got the mess of stories online that never can prove ones story, even yours, how do we know it's only for tech workers? Give people a break man.

Holy crap! I mistook you for an educated person! Sorry, my apologies! You made a statement (with only personal, anecdotal evidence, then derided me for the same? - Good call!)

You can look up the 5-year law on various websites, the "official Guangdong" website used to include a paragraph on this but they have since (*#(^(#^(*^#( their website.

Bah!

I just picked up my new Residence Permit for one year (yay!)

Turn in my passport June 22, but could not get it back until July 10. BUT the Permit was issued June 29, which means that it was approved 6/29, and my passport has just been sitting around their office for two weeks collecting dust.

I am grateful though. If I lived in Qingdao, Kunming or Sichuan, I would not have my RP today.

I should have collected today, but work times didn't match...

Nothing different to previous years... the ayi and security guard (and photography person) speak zero English (or any other language, than NongHua) and yet are the first people you speak to - and give you instructions...

The actual PSB guys and girls are fine... no hassles, no questions, no problems. even let  me submit the forms, and then go and get the medical results, and then return with it. (i, not go get medical, and then come back and submit).

Do you require a body checkup every renewal?

I'm due for pick-up next Friday. 3-weeks wait for new RP stamp seems excessive. Nobody speaks English at Kaifeng PSB, but rep. was with me.

PSB has big sign 'CITIZENS HOME' on some 10 storey building.

One photo, pic at PSB cam, and not much else for the 1st extension. No Medical exam.

I'll get passport myself as soon as rep. tell me 'fapiao' for pick-up arrived to the school.

ironman510:

Sorry man, that 3 week waiting sh*t sucks.
