Q: Would wearing hearing aids stop me from getting an English teaching job?
I'm thinking of going to China to teach English. I have moderate hearing loss and I wear hearing aids to fix it. When I wear the hearing aids, my hearing is perfect. I'd just like to know how much of an issue wearing hearing aids would be when I'm searching for a job.

I worked with an American in Changsha who was VERY deaf and two hearing aids - I hope you don't encounter any prejudice. Good Luck !
Won't be an issue if your hearing is perfect with the hearing aids. Don't even bother telling any of your employers. My hearing is probably a lot worse than yours, and I still passed not one, but two health examinations.
Not in my experience.
I am 45, and have used hearing aids since I was 36. Started working as a teacher in 2007. The only time my hearing aid gave me any trouble was in court back in 2005. The opposing counsel thought I was eavesdropping on their conversation.
In China, they just think it is a curiosity.
If they ask, just tell them that it is like glasses. You can see, but not clearly. Same thing with hearing aid (at least in my case). I can hear, but n ot clearly.
The cause was listening to heavy metal as a teenager, with headphones at full blast. Stupidity of youth....

Just want to add that I have worked in three schools: One in Guilin, and two in Beijing and never had any trouble. They thought my hearing aid was a curiosity and not much else.
It shouldn't be an issue. My hearing wasn't checked in the medical and if your hearing is fine with the aids no-one will care.
Do expect far less tact though compared to your own country. There doesn't seem to be any real awareness of minor disabilities.
A brief example being that I am going slightly thin on top and have had people asking me what 'disease' I have. Others have said thinning hair is 'ugly' and 'no like'.
However you will be far better prepared to adapt to Chinese life. I imagine without the hearing aids you might actually get a good nights sleep...
No worries most people here probably have never seen the type of hearing aids you are wearing.....They might think it's a fashion accessory..
Just tell them it's teh lastest fashion accessory in the West. You'll soon find students and other teachers following the trend.
