you are very vague on what happened. if you could be more specific on what happened: for example i don't know any ex-pats who would ask Chinese teachers personal questions such as you have outlined. Either way, it sounds like your school have decided to get rid of you, so regardless of what you do. Also, no offence, but your lack of punctuation and some of your phrases makes me think you are not a native english speaker.

dyanisis:

what difference does it make where his puctuation is, you understood what he was saying,  why big a dixx,  reason china is turning in to a shithole, the likes of you commenting on shit, he asked for answers/ideas......................no offence............if hes not a native speaker, big deal

native or not doesnt really matter...

a friend of mine got a warning letter, the reason: you are boring! interesting he had to teach 2 stupid 11 year old kids in winter holiday who didnt want to come from the first day after 2 lessons they just said he was boring so the teacher got a warning lol

most likely they give warning because in the contract is often said that if you got a warning we wont pay you the bonus / air ticket etc. so mostly they try to find a stupid reason to give you a warning

Englteachted:

His being a non-native speaker does factor in. Sadly , many non native speakers come from countries where they do not respect women. And that seems to be his problem. Not every situation is the same. His verbal warning could have been a very subtle, "that is a private question in China."

Also, schools have less patience when dealing with non-natives.

mh i saw more american teachers that have no respect for women (if you wanna say stupid comments mean that) then from other countries. No offense against americans have a lot of american friends :D for me stupid comments are just personality not always related to native or non native.

I would say most non native speakers come from europe and in europe they do have respect for women

I picked up on the vagueness also. It's probably because he actually did the acts that warranted the warnings.

The fact that asking teachers if they are married came up, this means you are being a creep. This means you are doing it to the point where they are complaining about it. You should have learned professional social behavior before you came here. As a supervisor , I would teach male staff to not ask these types of questions unless the young lady asked first.

You seem to be lacking a certain amount of social awareness. Just because you see Chinese men getting away with certain behaviors does not mean you as a foreigner will. Search for a girlfriend outside of work.

The problem is that you asked if she was married instead of just proceeding with flirting.

Its not your problem she is married, its hers. If she never told you that makes it so you have the best situation available to you.

When a woman cheats its not the fault of the man she cheats with, the fault lies with the one who broke the relationship "contract"

Take this information and prosper.

I'm a firm believer that people who complain about their bosses are usually bad employees. In China...maybe not so much because of the rampant dishonesty, but still if somebody tells me "My boss is such an asshole!" my first assumption is that the person saying that was probably a slacker. There are scumbag bosses out there, but 9/10 times your boss is nice to you if you are a good worker with a good attitude.

Thanks! I'll believe that in some cases good employees really do get shafted here, but a lot of ESL teachers are really marginal people no matter where they are from. Not all of course, but it's a job that is accessible to people who can't get other jobs so you get a lot of bad with the good. These people don't know how to act and blame others.

I agree with 'guidance' from your answer, expat: 'teacher should center first to his/her job and him/herself!'

Thinking about boss should be 'afternoon's' (after work) thinking, or 'marginal' matter. Boss is your visa sponsor!

My concern about my  boss is usually: 'I need visa sponsor!'

I am working in Public Primary School in Fukang, Xinjiang. My 2 Headmasters don't speak or understand English. There are 3 Chinese teachers (among 30) with 'beginners' level of English. My Chinese is non-existent!

However, School respects Contract in any point.

My boss is very nice looking Chinese, 35 Y (estimation!) old, woman. Another one is some 10 Y older.

How could I possibly know, what kind of personality is my Headmaster?

i'm not a teacher so I don't know if it's common for you to know the headmaster, but I know business. If you are a good teacher then students like you and is good for business so your boss or supervisor is likely to be nice to you.

The problem is that ESL jobs are available to everyone but really require a really unique skill set. Not everyone is capable of holding a fun, engaging class, but tons of people take ESL positions because they are very easy to get. Maybe someone is a hard worker, but teaching simply isn't for them so their class is boring and they are not an asset to the school. That's the cold reality of business. Make yourself an asset and you will be treated well.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
