Although I agree that some topics are questionable, I'm trying to create a space that is censored as little as possible. With so much of that going on from our side of the GFW, can't we have at least once space that isn't? Since I took over a few months ago I've tried to let a few borderline questions/answers slide in order to generate a feeling of greater freedom. There is nothing worse than having an answer erased and feeling further constricted by 'authorities'. This is your space to do with as you please (mostly, I will step in if I have to but prefer not to) so I would like to give you guys some kind of power as well as accountability. We have a strong core of regular users who we really appreciate, who give well thought out/researched answers generally stemming from years of experience in China.
As to our nationality, I think it is largely irrelevant (although I'm sure that you will take that as admittance that we are Chinese, do with this information as you will, it is not our job to convince you either way).

I think people underestimate how much effort the Chinese govt puts into trying to control the conversation of sites like this. I have read the answers boards for years before posting, and I 've seen an escalation in their attempts within the past year. I have seen them expose expats who seriously impeded their efforts (traveler).
Foreign Teachers and foreigners in general do not seem to grasp the reality that China does not want them here. CFTU is a govt run organization and their latest campaign seems to be directed at making legal FTs price themselves out of the market.
Now, when it comes to the Snowden, NSA, and now Dimon stuff, they are just trying to keep the conversation off of China.
When you think about it, you'll think this is too insanely juvenile to be true. But look at everything else in China, insanely childish.

Yes, China have heavy censorship, but Pete sake, look a bit ! The news items posted here are usually really critical of Chinese society, most of the long term expat contributor here are *very* critical of things in China, etc. So paranoia have this nice thing that you can always up it "ha ha, but things are free here because it's a honeypot to catch you all !"... 2 years, and the trap wasn't set :p

A few years ago there was a young woman that used a bunch of numbers as her username. She claimed to be an American male, but everything she posted was Chinese propaganda. Later it was revealed by another poster due to an error by the admin that she was in fact Chinese. She threatened the admin saying she was a reporter and that if they did not stop allowing posters to freely discuss China's problems, that she was going to take action. Her english was nearly flawless, you can read the archives yourself.
I think you've missed my point. We talk about China on this site, the good the bad and the ugly. The Chinese govt is extremely sensitive, to the point where it doesn't seem realistic. So they dispatch their paid commentators to attack America (Snowden, NSA, etc). They discuss nonsensical things like selling your virginity in order steer the conversation away from sensitive subjects (Kunming). CFTU, a govt run organization. Use your own eyes and see for yourself , different accounts saying the same things and posting links to the same sites. Read grumby, EZ and now Tech posts. Read older posts and look for similarities in content. The popular talking point for the CCP is "do not talk about China's human rights abuses look at America's Human rights abuses" You will find many comments that fit that talking point whether it is the middle east, death penalty, NSA, TSA etc.

For Grumpy, EZ and Tech being the same person, yes, I've some suspicions (as you say, same links, same discourses, same reasoning, timing) but I've yet to have a solid proof, like IP addresses. For the motives, really, you also have US citizen really angry at US, either for good or wrong reasons, with the very same discourse. Non-sense posts are not a proof in itself, there are not the first or the last to post non-sense posts with batshit crazy stuffs. I'm not sure you have the right strategy : nobody will listen to the guy's who's shouting with a red face. However, you can dig that ESL Teacher Union thingy(complete with 1998 vintage website) and try to see where it comes from ;)

My "patriotic" colors have been faded by 20 years of U.S. meddling abroad, hypocritical accusations against other countries for human rights violations while they torture prisoners in Iraq, Cuba and kidnap innocent "suspects" for months without court orders. If I am Chinese you are Latvian. I served with the U.S. military and then with the Justice Department after my discharge. I saw more corruption in five years than you will in your lifetime. My definition of patriotism may be different than yours, but I have every right to express my views. I will comment on EVERY and ANY war crime I learn about no matter who committed them. I will not defend America right or wrong unless I see some real efforts being made to admit and fix problems.
Sure we still have things better in America than most countries, but the things that are wrong with America are too big to ignore Ted. Stop living in denial and become a part of the solution instead of the problem. When you have time read the "Hamilton Papers" written almost 200 years ago and then look at our America now. Don't tell me about how much better America is than China because that is nothing more than rationalization. Trying to make the evils and problems of one country look better than others by comparisons does not solve the core root problems Ted. Both China and America have the same big problem right now - massive corruption. But we expect to find this in China, while it is not supposed to be so pervasive back home.
If you still think I am Chinese - prove it or shut up already. And although I am no big fan of the CFTU, I went to two of their meetings at BeiDa in 2012 and can tell you they are all expats and the ONLY Chinese present in a room full of maybe 60 people were a handful of Chinese GFs. They are even more anti-govt. than you and me Ted. Go see for yourself. Did you know that 2 of their leaders were deported by the Chinese government for exposing corruption of some principals? So please stop making stupid accusations and false assumptions simply because people do not agree with YOU.
If you want people to respect you stop the nonsense and stop attacking the messenger (even if they are Iranian or North Korean) and focus on the message. I speak only for myself on this forum and I can agree to disagree - can you?

Well, the Dr. still have the warning on 'orange', this China Foreign Teacher Union (need a VPN to get the page) is nothing legal in China. It's just a website, no office, no declared stuffs... Website with awfully unprofessional design, it's like 1998 vintage homepage made with "I learn HTML in 10 days". Claiming around 25000 adherent, with absolutely nothing to back the number, nor clear way to become an adherent. On other "expat in China" websites, people with completely different alias (not Grumpy, Techtronix or EZ4BLABLA) promotes this China Foreign Teacher Union, with the same pattern of 2 or 3 guys mentioning it, all guys who registered to the forum at about the same time. I keep googling around, and I find mention of name like Bruce Gorcyca aka Antony DiMarco aka (long list of alias), a long time fraudster with a nice pedigree back in Canada. No provable link with China Foreign Teacher Union. But ! The whole pattern (awfully designed website, 2 or 3 users with one man behind promoting an association to protect you from scams, association with no real existence) looks like the China Trade Comission scam pulled by that Bruce guy. Again I don't say China Foreign Teacher Union is this, I just see a pattern and I'm being a tad suspicious.

T. was acting as Mod. and contributor to the Board with several daily treads, mostly negative about China and its international politics. I felt same as 'answering to cop, what did I do against the Law'.
I live here! I rarely involve in (political) treads negative to my temp. residence host. If I would live elsewhere, I would maybe comment.
Last week, there was an article on Reuters about Xinjiang professor from Beijing Uni., who 'disappeared' in the hands of Chinese Police (no VPN needed for read).
What do I know about real reasons for that? Why should I take my stand against China on that?
When I'm not happy, I pick-up my stuff and leave. I don't engage in posting on public tread!

nationality is in itself irrelevant; it's the intent that counts, and admin has shown its choices to be defensible. this answers board is disorderly chaos, just like the streets of China. except, instead of craziness and scam attempts, this board has unique opinions and trolls(wumao). take the bad with the good, i'd say. it's all free speech. my main criticism of the admin is not about moderation, but about how Chinese news stories are directly translated word for word, along with the local discrimination and propaganda intact. a bit more tailoring to fit the audience would be warranted. unless the untailored translations are the only way to inform the expat community what gov't spindoctors are saying abiout us now, without drawing big brother's gaze. if that's the case, i stand corrected.

This is exactly why we have the disclaimer saying that our articles are translated from third-party sources and not our own opinions. The news we post is what is going on in Chinese news today/this week to give the readers an idea of what Chinese media is saying. If you read it with that context then you will have more of an appreciation of the content, instead of us always having to write an editor's note saying how and why we agree/disagree. Make up your own mind about these stories.
So you do, indeed, stand corrected, but you acknowledged that so you're off the hook 
even though they "banned" me a few months a go...... still not sure why... a silly comment at some point I guess ....... even though they did that.....I still come and look quite regularly.... and like the admin said.......there is a "core" of very good information from expats and an even goofier "core" of often comical silliness.

I enjoy coming to this site daily and even though there are some questions I think are stupid I just avoid them and stick to the threads I find interesting. Like the admin says, I think we have some power here, if someone posts a question that we feel is wumaoish/troll-like, then we can just choose not to answer it and promote the questions that are good/valid/worth our time.
What is the issue that prevents Explorer from being able to type on this site now?
I am using Explorer right now and it works just fine. Although I'm only doing it to show it works. I hate Explorer. Get Chrome Ted!
