Q: Is WWIII starting in the Ukraine right now?

The situation in the Ukraine just deteriorated with the arrival of Russian troops. Will the world defend the Ukraine against a Russian hostile takeover?  The last time Russia occupied the Ukraine 12 million people were deliberately allowed to starve when Stalin ordered that all the wheat and other crops of the Ukraine be confiscated.  Putin seems to be the mastermind behind all this. Will a sniper take him out, an induced heart attack, or will thousands of soldiers be sacrificed to keep the Ukraine and independent country?

This mess started because the Ukraine wanted to join NATO and the EU and Putin freaked out. Now what?  China is probably dleighted with the new diversion that will keep America preoccupied for the next 2-3 years why China can consolidate it's economic forces and keep growing its military to keep America at bay in Asia.

Kiev fails to deliver on ultimatum as separatists take another town

DEBKAfile April 14, 2014, 3:27 PM (IDT)

The Ukraine provisional government was unable to deliver on its ultimatum to pro-Russian separatists in seven eastern cities to hand over their weapons and evacuate public buildings by early Sunday – or face armed force to remove them.  Instead, they captured the public buildings of an eighth town, Horlivka near Donetsk. Kiev reacted by again suggesting a national referendum. DEBKAfile adds: There are signs that operationally-capable Ukrainian military units have stopped taking orders from the provisional government.

Security Council ends urgent Ukraine debate without resolution

DEBKAfile April 14, 2014, 7:21 AM (IDT)

The urgent UN Security Council session, called by Moscow against the Ukraine government’s plan to used armed forces in the East, quickly turned into a platform for mutual condemnations and accusations before breaking up without a resolution. US Ambassador Samantha Power accused Russia of “disinformation and propaganda,” adding: “This instability was written and choreographed in and by Russia.” Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin said: Further escalation must be swiftly stopped. "It is the West that will determine the opportunity to avoid civil war in Ukraine," he added, calling for national dialogue.

Acting Ukraine President Oleksandr Turchynov said in a TV address Sunday night that he would not allow a repetition of Crimea’s annexation by Russia last month after a referendum. In the last 48 hours, pro-Russian forces seized government and police buildings in half a dozen East Ukraine cities and demanded referendums to determine their future.

Chop, chop Ukraine....

Battleground between Russia and West is China - Jim O’Neill (6:22)

April 11 - Jim O’Neill, former Goldman chief economist, says investors remain bullish on Russia. He argues the EU and US need to court China, rather than impose sanctions, if they want to hurt Putin’s economy.

Russians are winners here! West is just stirring up the pot! Read this article, written by US reporter living in Russia since 1998:

Ukraine’s great unraveling, brought to you by corporate America

Because US instigated overthrowing of pro-Russian Yanukovich with support of 'neo-nazis' in Ukraine, which didn't want Russians, but 'free world' EU.

There is huge Russian population in Ukraine. Some Ukrainians have Russian as their native language.

When Russians granted 'independence' to Ukraine in 1991, they didn't make 'mistake', because of huge Russian population living there, as 'yes to independence, but despite that, there are Russians living in since.....long time ago, therefore 'it's Russia'.

Ukraine has huge debt, which Russians would help to pay back with loan, but Ukraine cannot join EU and NATO. Now, Russians wants US, EU, IMF pay U. debt. They hiked price of natural gas to Ukraine some 40%.

NATO wanted to install 'missile shield' on Ukraine/Russian borders. More here:

http://rt.com/news/pentagon-destroyer-russian-jet-428/

The Pentagon said a Russian fighter jet made multiple close-range passes near an American navy destroyer. The warship was deployed in the Black Sea as Russian military monitored NATO’s systematic build-up of naval forces in the region.

"This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with their national protocols and previous agreements on the professional interaction between our militaries," said Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman.

Pentagon defined the jet as a Russian Su-24 aircraft, or Fencer, which made 12 passes at low altitude near the USS Donald Cook that, at the time, was conducting a patrol in international waters in the western Black Sea, Reuters reported.

Earlier, a military official told AP that on April, 12, a Russian aircraft flew repeatedly within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook at about 500 feet above sea level for over 90 minutes.

NATO violates Montreux Convention’

“What we are seeing is that for the first time since 2008, NATO is creating a naval battle group outside Russian borders,” a Russian military source told Interfax news agency.

On April, 3, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused NATO of violating the Montreux Convention, which regulates the number ships that can enter the Black Sea, saying that “US warships have extended their deployment beyond the set terms a couple of times lately.”
According to the treaty, warships from non-Black Sea states can only stay in the basin for up to 21 days consecutively. USS Taylor spent 11 more than that in the region in February and March.

Washington Drives The World To War. CIA Intervention in Eastern Ukraine

Washington’s plan to grab Ukraine overlooked that the Russian and Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine were not likely to go along with their insertion into the EU and NATO while submitting to the persecution of Russian speaking peoples.  Washington has lost Crimea, from which Washington intended to eject Russia from its Black Sea naval base. Instead of admitting that its plan for grabbing Ukraine has gone amiss, Washington is unable to admit a mistake and, therefore, is pushing the crisis to more dangerous levels.

The danger for Russia is that the Russian government will rely on diplomacy, international organizations, international cooperation, and on the common sense and self-interest of German politicians and politicians in other of Washington’s European puppet states.

For Russia this could be a fatal mistake. There is no good will in Washington, only mendacity. Russian delay provides Washington with time to build up forces on Russia’s borders and in the Black Sea and to demonize Russia with propaganda and whip up the US population into a war frenzy.  The latter is already occurring.

Kerry has made it clear to Lavrov that Washington is not listening to Russia. As Washington pays well, Washington’s European puppets are also not listening to Russia. Money is more important to European politicians than humanity’s survival.

In my opinion, the Russian and Chinese governments have made serious strategic mistakes by remaining within the US dollar-based international payments system. The BRICS and any others with a brain should instantly desert the dollar system, which is a mechanism for US imperialism. The countries of the BRICS should immediately create their own separate payments system and their own exclusive communications/Internet system.

Russia and China have stupidly made these strategic mistakes, because reeling from communist failures and oppressions, they naively assumed that Washington was pure, that Washington was committed to its propagandistic self-description as the upholder of law, justice, mercy, and  human rights.

In fact, Washington, the “exceptional, indispensable country,” is committed to its hegemony over the world. Russia, China, and Iran are in the way of Washington’s hegemony and are targeted for attack.

The attack on Russia is mounting.

I think the proverbial shit is hitting the fan and as it splatters around the world, nations will be forced to choose sides or face sanctions from either U.S. or Russia.  I think war is growing inevitable. Maybe only 1-3 months away in my opinion.

http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-obama-game-is-putin-being-lured-into-a-...

MIKE WHITNEY lives in Washington state. He is a contributor to Hopeless: Barack Obama and the Politics of Illusion (AK Press). Hopeless is also available in a Kindle edition. He can be reached at fergiewhitney@msn.com.

As we noted earlier, Putin’s main objective is to make money. In contrast, the US wants to dominate the Eurasian landmass, break Russia up into smaller, non-threatening units, and control China’s growth. That’s the basic gameplan. Also, the US does not want any competitors, which we can see from this statement by Paul Wolfowitz which evolved into the US National Defense Strategy:

“Our first objective is to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival, either on the territory of the former Soviet Union or elsewhere, that poses a threat on the order of that posed formerly by the Soviet Union. This is a dominant consideration underlying the new regional defense strategy and requires that we endeavor to prevent any hostile power from dominating a region whose resources would, under consolidated control, be sufficient to generate global power.”

This is the prevailing doctrine that Washington lives by. No rivals. No competition. We’re the boss. What we say, goes. The US is Numero Uno, le grande fromage. Who doesn’t know this already? Here’s more from Wolfowitz:

“The U.S. must show the leadership necessary to establish and protect a new order that holds the promise of convincing potential competitors that they need not aspire to a greater role or pursue a more aggressive posture to protect their legitimate interests. In non-defense areas, we must account sufficiently for the interests of the advanced industrial nations to discourage them from challenging our leadership or seeking to overturn the established political and economic order. We must maintain the mechanism for deterring potential competitors from even aspiring to a larger regional or global role.”

No, the 3rd WW didn't (won't) start in Ukraine:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-27053500

The Ukrainian troops appear to have been disarmed before being fed by pro-Russian militants at a cafe in Sloviansk and then put on a bus back to their home city of Dnipropetrovsk.

In another incident, several hundred residents of Pchyolkino, south of Sloviansk, surrounded another column of 14 Ukrainian military vehicles.

After the crowd was reinforced by pro-Russian gunmen, negotiations ensued and the troops were allowed to drive their vehicles away, but only after agreeing to surrender the magazines from their assault rifles.

Ukraine's "anti-terrorist" operation is looking more and more a non-event - or worse, an outright fiasco, reports the BBC's David Stern in Donetsk.

http://www.sott.net/article/277529-Combating-US-propaganda-EU-spy-chief-...

There is no large Russian military presence in East Ukraine, head of EU intelligence, Commodore Georgij Alafuzoff, has said. The spy chief has dismissed multiple accusations from the West alleging Russian involvement in the unrest in the region.

Lavrov: Russia, US, EU, Ukraine agree on de-escalation roadmap

The document calls for an “immediate start of a nationwide national dialogue within the framework of the constitutional process, which must be inclusive and accountable,” Lavrov said.

The most important agreement reached during the talks, according to Lavrov, states that the Ukrainian crisis “must be resolved by the Ukrainians themselves concerning an end to the conflict” including those related to “detaining protesters, occupying buildings” and, in the long run “the start of true constitutional reform.”

“Among the steps that have to be taken are: the disarmament of all the illegal armed groups, and the return of all the occupied administrative buildings,” Lavrov told journalists at the Thursday briefing.

“An amnesty for all the protesters must take place, except of those who committed grave crimes,” the Foreign Minister added.

How the U.S. made its problem with Putin worse

Then, just weeks later, Bush announced that the United States was withdrawing from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, so that it could build a system in Eastern Europe to protect NATO allies and U.S. bases from Iranian missile attack. In a nationally televised address, Putin warned that the move would undermine arms control and nonproliferation efforts.

"This step has not come as a surprise to us," Putin said. "But we believe this decision to be mistaken."

Reasons of US 'manure' in Ukraine explained in detail:

http://rt.com/op-edge/west-russia-sanctions-economic-destruction-436/

“The West is not remotely secure enough in its own economic recovery for the economy to actually withstand sanctions,” Patrick added.

“The big issue we have to look at here is the fact that America is very keen to impose more sanctions. Why? Because actually with the exception of one or two companies, such as Exxon, ultimately the US has very little interest directly in Russia at this time. Therefore, one could argue that it’s actually a politics of competitive economic advantage,” Young told RT.

In particular, Washington wants to have a better standing on the EU markets.

“If America can create sanctions, that would pull back the EU's interests in Russia and therefore allow America to have a better chance to get in subsequently when relations improve. Remember the key statistic for indirect investment [shows that] 75 percent of Russian overseas investment is coming from the EU according to the EU’s own statistics. That’s a huge number and therefore it’s quite obvious America doesn’t feel so much pain if it inflicts the sanctions,” he says.

However, Europe is much more vulnerable in regard to sanctions against Russia.

“Germany is a country having a huge percent of their exports going to Russia, they are going to feel the pain in the same as UK car manufacturers, who osend over so many Range Rovers to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. There are ultimately lots of industries in Europe that would be damaged here and they really cannot afford it given the crumbling edifice of the Eurozone put together by Brussels’ incompetent politicians,” Young says.

“It’s in the face of Gazprom as an attempt to try to kill South Stream project so that the Americans can bring huge gas barges over to Western Europe in a hope that it would allow the Americans to make Europe more dependent on American gas.”

De-Escalation Off: US Deploys Troops To Poland

So is that an escalation? or a de-escalation? or is it different when the US moves troops towards another nation's borders?

Moscow reiterated on Tuesday it may deploy Iskander theater ballistic missiles in the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad that will be capable of effectively engaging elements of the U.S. missile defense system in Poland.

NATO members agreed to create a missile shield over Europe to protect it against ballistic missiles launched by so-called rogue states, for example Iran and North Korea, at a summit in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2010.

The missile defense system in Poland does not jeopardize Russia’s nuclear forces, Army General Nikolai Makarov, chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said.

“However, if it is modernized…it could affect our nuclear capability and in that case a political decision may be made to deploy Iskander systems in the Kaliningrad region,” he said in an interview with RT television.

But that will be a political decision,” he stressed. “So far there is no such need.”

Looks like a little over a year later, the "political decision" was taken as the need is there. But why does Russia need to send a very clear message of escalation at a time when the Cold War is long over, when globalization and free trade, promote game theoretic world peace (or "piece" as the Obama administration wouldsay), oh, and when Russia quietly has decided to reestablish the former USSR starting with the Ukraine.

We'll leave the rhetorical question logically unanswered.

US sends 600 troops to Eastern Europe, warship USS Taylor enters Black SeaPublished time: April 22, 2014 20:17

What happened to 10 000 US troops to Poland?

icnif77:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-04-22/second-us-warship-enters-black-sea-promote-peace-and-stability

Less than two short weeks ago, the US sent their first warship into the Black Sea to reassure NATO allies and Black Sea partners. Since then, things have escalated and then de-escalated last week with the so-called "truce deal." So why is the US sending a second ship? The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Taylor (FFG 50), homeported in Mayport, Fla., will enter the Black Sea April 22 to promote peace and stability in the region. We are sure that Putin will stand idly by and watch as NATO and the US build forces on his borders, but no matter how aggressive his response, the US Navy combat dolphin and sea lion team will not accompany the mission. O2, o2

However ominously martial Russia’s actions toward Ukraine have become, the next combatants in the crisis will not be the US navy’s fleet of dolphins. Yes, the navy trains and keeps dolphins, whose powerful innate echolocation abilities help sailors spot suspicious undersea objects that might be mines. The marine mammal enlistees are the aquatic equivalent of the dogs, whose sophisticated sense of smell has aided US soldiers in the hunt for homemade insurgent bombs on land. But, contrary to reports, the dolphins are not accompanying the USS Donald Cook to the Black Sea.

Russian army ordered to advance toward Ukraine border. Moscow questions May election’s legitimacyDEBKAfile Special Report April 24, 2014, 7:11 PM (IDT)

In the past 48 hours, Russian officials have kept up an unprecedented stream of invective against the provisional government in Kiev and the Obama administration’s military, intelligence and financial intervention in Ukraine.

The opening shot was fired by Russia’s UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin, who Wednesday, April 23, blamed the US for the “pushing through the most radical scenario” in Kiev to save its $5 billion investment in regime change.

Moving Closer To War

Paul Craig Roberts April 26, 2014

The Obama regime, wallowing in hubris and arrogance, has recklessly escalated the Ukrainian crisis into a crisis with Russia. Whether intentionally or stupidly, Washington’s propagandistic lies are driving the crisis to war. Unwilling to listen to any more of Washington’s senseless threats, Moscow no longer accepts telephone calls from Obama and US top officials.
