Q: Xiao Pingguo needs to be stopped.

I swear I can't walk five feet without some store blasting this song. Then I get on the damn bus and it's somebody's ringtone. Then I get home to crank the Judas Priest and the little bugger is STILL stuck in my head.

I know you have other songs, China, enough of this horrid pop ditty!

It's everywhere. At my company annual dinner some people did a dance to that song. Some also did Gangnam style. For buddha's sake put that song to rest already it's been three years.

Ok, I get your point, but its better than Da Lin Da Lin Da, or something like that, which was also played ad infinitum a couple of years ago.

When the kids in class ask me about my favorite singer and I answer, they have not a clue about Bowie - but they all know Bieber and this god damn Xiao Pingguo mess.

I'm a fan of Iggy Pop and Placebo. It complements The Thin White Duke perfectly.

I actually get angry when I hear shitty music and see shitty movies and tv shows. Actually I should phrase that carefully, I generally admire any art that makes an attempt at something and fails, but tat that's cynically generated for mass consumption deserves nothing less than scorn.

I call it Twilight music because it is the musical equivalent of the books and movies which are complete and utter shit.

AladinSane:

Oh man love me some Iggy! China will never have musicians like Bowie, Iggy and Blue Oyster Cult...

I too have grown to hate this song. I don't understand why China produces many songs but just plays 1. I imagine the Chinese charts now "And now in this weeks top 1 we have.... xiao pingguo".

Can't stand it anymore.

This and Gangnam Style, which faded out of existence in the rest of the world, Chinese are always late.

I find all Chinese music just ghastly. People ask me what I think of Chinese music and I usually lie. It's all so awfully derivative. It takes the worst parts of Western pop music and imitates them ad nauseum. I had completely forgotten about the Backstreet Boys until my arrival in China. Bad pop music doesn't die - it just goes to China. Xiao Pingguo seems quite inoffensive when compared to the other crap people listen to.

laowaigentleman:

How does K pop compare?

There was an episode of American Dad where one of Stu's friend's dads was the manager of some pre-fabricated boyband.

Nothing compares to Fingerbang though.

Fingerbang, bang, bang. I'm gonna...

I honestly never heard that song. Looked for it on YT and didn't find it very catchy.
