yes it is there are beautiful natural land lock you will like them if you are some what adventurous, food is really tasty and its cheap as well and girls of xinjiang they are very pretty and awesome

I would say that Xinjiang is a good travel destination in the spring, summer and autumn months. Unless one likes really Siberian-type cold weather, then Xinjiang is better avoided in the winter.

It is  a unique part of China but before embarking upon such a journey to that province, one should be assured as to the current situation of events.

Urumqui is more Chinese than anything else these.  It is just like another very big Chinese city but the blending of so many ethnic minorities gives it a somewhat special field.  The city has some very pretty things to see  but it remains rather bland overall.

Kashgar is far more unique but it is also more difficult to reach and it is prone to serious earthquakes (and other kinds of disturbances these days).
