Q: You ever tempted to wear one of those surgical masks?

Is this new bird flu scaring you enough that you're thinking of getting one of those surgical masks? Is it scaring you at all?

Last term, I was. I wanted to use the mask, and smear it with Vics Vapor rub as I had one student with rotting teeth that was really REALLY nauseating.

If you decide to wear one, at least decorate it. Draw something on it, or add glitter or bedazzle it. Make it fun.

Oh i've got one already, it's decorated to look like one large mouth with the lips peeled back showing a row of teeth the size of cigarette boxes. I wear it everywhere I go.

If I wear a hat, sunnies and one of those masks, who the hell is going to know I am a foreigner? I'd miss the stares and having a "hello" shouted at me......usually from a safe distance. Nah, no mask for me, I couldn't handle the anonymity!

Some clever person wrote in another thread that the reason surgeons wear these masks is to protect the patient from germs from their mouth. As far as I can tell people here wear them because they think it will save them from particles in the air. It doesn't.

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
