Q: In your town or city has there been a net increase or decrease of foreign teachers?
I live in a small town in Jiangsu. Three years ago I was the only foreign teacher here. One year later it became three, and this year there are nine foreign teachers.
Do not get me wrong, I welcome them with open arms since I can go out with peope that speak a language a know. How about any of you guys?

How many ppl live in your small town? I also live in a small town...about 250,000.
I'm not entirely sure but I think foreign teacher numbers are basically unchanged. There's about a dozen, including Sth Africans, Filipinos, Canadians (teaching Canadian curriculum on a Canadian salary), Ghanans, and an Aussie.
The Ed bureau are looking for more FT but Xinjiang is a long way away.
FYI...if anyone is interested in coming out here to teach in a middle school, send me a msg.

In Fuk. there's no more than 10000. Even less. I'm shopping for groceries in Urumqi, 'cause we don't have decent Supermarket. Whatever I can buy on the outside market, rest in Urumqi Carrefour.
However, city has 3 Primary Schools and 3 Middle Schools, 1 US teacher (out by June), Ozz teacher is leaving soon, and I'm out of Fuk. by the end of the month. There's S.African couple in the city, 3 teachers from Philippines, and few students from UK. What do you have in Middle School? What did you say to 'my' golf comment?

And the funny thing is, neither do the other foreigners I know who live here. The Sth Africans do. Must be all about the Muslim influence, or something. I mean, what % of expats living in China don't drink? Seems skewed to me.
But be that as it may, I know non drinkers can sometimes be interesting company.
In my Fuk. there are apparently 3 new FT from Philippines, working for some 2-3000 Rmb less per month than 2 Native FT and 1 Polish guy, who all left in a month time.
There are only few Primary Schools adverts on eChina Jobs site. A year ago, it was some 20 adverts for Primary Schools, comparable to 5 today, all combined with Kindergarten or Middle School teaching.

I think it is steadily declining but my city is more of a stopover point for many foreigners.
They come here to teach for a year or two then move onto a larger city now that they have experience or back home.
I am not too sure now that I am out of the foreign teacher thing I don't mingle with them quite as much just because I am not in that loop anymore.
The stock in my city has risen but the demographic has changed.
When I first arrived there were mostly Americans, Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks, Filipinos and Brits.
Now, there are an awful lot more foreign faces but they are mainly of the Russian, former Soviet Bloc, African, Central and South American variety.
By the way, it was a turn of phrase. I am not saying I can tell where someone is from by looking at them. That's racist.

...?Your story sounds like mine, almost 2 years ago I was the only foreign teacher now we have 7 in total, this number is expected to increase to around 8 to 10 in the next 2 months.
Again, small town in Jiangsu called Rugao.
I don't have an exact number but at our local expat cafe/bar/club (owned by a French guy) there come new faces and some of the old faces I don't see anymore. Roughly the number is on the rise.
We have a small foreign community over here, yet visible enough so that local people are used to us being around and don't stare.
Foshan has a laid back atmosphere, lot of greenery, sightseeing and is nice to walk around, but foreigners don't seem to be roaming the streets as much as they did a few years ago.
The city has become so convenient with many new malls, food courts, cafes and so on that I suppose people aren't out looking for stuff anymore since they have got everything next to their home.
