Q: For the Z visa, does the background check have to be authenticated by the Consulate?

I'm working through the Z visa process now and I was wondering if the background check has to be notarized by the Secretary of State AND the Chinese Consulate? Or if the stamp of approval from the local police station is enough?

And to add the "slim chance" option: If you've been working in China over a year you can get your secrity check at the local security check office and get it Notarized in China, BUT ask your FEC & PSB office first, all cities are different, Shenzhen gave me this option.

I have to ask too,  do they want the degree notarized and apostilled or just notarized

reason being my degree is from the UK but I AM FROM IRELAND, police clearance from Ireland

SO IS JUST NOTARIZED ONLY , AND CAN THAT BE DONE HERE IN CHINA

ironman510:

They want the degree notarized by your Uni & an Authentication sticker from the Chinese embassy on the back of the notarized doc. Note it has to be done within the country of where your degree is from. Example myself, Degree done in America, but my TESOL is from England, had to go to two different countries to get these things authenticated.

Tip: apostilled doc's won't work in China because China never joined this, thats for Korea. No, it can't be done in China, best chance is to ask someone back home on your behalf handle this matter or no choice go home to handle it.

Im just findng out now, that it can be done here in China, and also if you are transferring you resident permit, there is heaps of room to move, as regards notarizing this and that

police clearance can come from China

most of whats new is just for new applications for working visa

ironman510:

Thats correct, BUT it might not be like that for all cities or all passport holders, so everyone should check first before saying to themselves "hey its fine and safe to notarize in China because Dyanisis & Ironman did it"... Check first, don't assume..

Hey!

Have you found away to have a foreign degree authenticated in China? I have been working in China since February and have z visa, residence permit, foreign expert cert etc but am changing jobs when my current contract ends on 10th July (also when residence permit expires) so need to renew my residence permit using the new system.

I have a degree from the UK, notarized by a UK solicitor, legalized by the UK gov (foreign and commonwealth office) and now need to get it authenticated by Chinese embassy in UK. Only problem is I'm stuck in China working right up to my residence permit expiration date!

Have you found a way to get a foreign doc authenticated in China? If so, how???

how can a university notarize anything? I doubt the have a qualified notary.

Furthermore the university was just printing your degree anyways o.o. Probably you mean the university have to stamp something on the degree or they have to send it out for you?

makes not much sense. As far as I know, you take your degree to the notary and he will notarize your degree (by checking with uni or not, is responsibility)

ironman510:

They just print out a sheet stating yo went to that Uni and make a copy of your degree and grade records and then stable and sign it then you can go to the Chinese Embassy.
