Q: Anyone heard anything about importing a car?
My car is a piece of garbage, its a 2008 ford focus, but its crap. My wife sais it must be a woman because its on the rag once a month.
Its time to buy a new car this coming year. I can buy a better Chinese made car, ill have the warranty and pray I dont get screwed, or i can bring a much better car in for the same money. I have tried to do some research but every article i have read is so conflicting. One sais only diplomats can, others say Z visa with expert certificate. Obviously I am hoping for that as I am not a diplomat. I started looking because I heard and read that a foreigner can bring one car tax or duty free. But other articles say the opposite.
Also selling it. Ive heard you can sell after 6 months, or a year , or never.
Anyone heard anything? read anything? Or know of a company I could contact that would have facts?

BTW, I Run a factory so I am looking to bring a Ford F150, they are super rare here, so ill look rich even though they are cheap as hell back home. And as I work in a factory I could provide any paperwork showing its imported for use.
One of my coworkers, an expert in medical research with close to 40 years experience (has a Z visa and expert certificate) attempted to import his car. He was told he could, but he had to pay the value added taxes, because his car had larger than a 2.0 engine (Nissan Z car). The tax would be 480,000 RMB. Needless to say he bought a car in China (Mazda).

Yeah ive heard of that happening, but ive also heard opposite as well. But still useful, thanks! Chinese is my back up hahaha which seems more likely
the easy way out is to buy from a dealer , you see like most countries if there is a dealership for that car in that country then they frown appon you under cutting them so it will not happen .,Now the second hand car market is different but the car you are importing will need to meet the min requirements for that country that means after you pay all the fees you will still need an inspection before you can register it . so in short better hope you get a packet of Red envolopes for Xmas .
There is a couple of F150 owners in my hood. I must say I think you are a bit of a tool for importing such a car. Why not get a local car.

haha why a tool? I would never buy that truck, this isnt about saving money. I already had a chinese made car, so i wanted to look at other options. If i buy a chinese car itll cost around 300 000 but i could get the truck here for much less. If i could sell it later then that would be awsome. New in china, about a million, second hand, over 700 000, id double my money spent. Just looking at options

It's just. You're living in a country where we can hardly breathe, and then you want a big cumbersome piece of Detroit ? Granted, a non-Chinese car is probably cleaner than a slightly old Chinese car that has never been taken care of.
Did you consider what low quality fuel will do to a modern American engine ? I am only guessing but service intervals/oil-changes should be a lot more frequent.

so i should drive a prius? based on aircare in china, im sure im not creating much of an imprint, but.... ill give you that. As for your gas question..... all foreign cars you see on the road.. all of them, their engines are imported. Ford, VW, BMW, the cars are build here, but all engines are not built here in a poor attempt at protecting their intellectual rights. They come in a crate and just slide them right in the poorly made care. Which could be why my engine runs great while everything else is broken. So no, it wouldnt effect it all that much.

Yup. The imported cars are most likely the same, but the software in the engine management system could be adjusted.
I asked a VW dealership about service interval on a VW Polo (it's a while ago, I think it was a 1.4 TSI) They said, oil change every 5000km..... a friend of mine drives the exact same car back home, it has variable service interval and needs oil about every 30000km

yup, with an M3 you'll be a total tree hugger.... also, with an M3 you can further your bank robbing career. Also, there is a thread on this forum about how to rob banks in China.

I also bought a Mazda and its perfectly fine, love it! 
i brought a toyota solara convertible in under the rule and got it duty free into the country, but i have to keep it in my name for one year before selling and im only allowed to bring a car in once every 5 years. this car was an investment to sell and make some money. convertibles here in shandong are rare and the solara is not imported here by dealers, paid 25k in chicago and 4k for shipping to qingdao. permits and fees and inspections are still pending, will let you know the numbers. the kentucky plant does not make the solara anymore and the car will be phased out but will be unique to drive in china. hope the buyer enjoys it,
