Q: Are new mobile phones unlocked in China?

Are new mobile phones bought online unlocked?

Thinking of buying a new one but don't want to be left with a dead brick when I leave here.

If you buy online, it will be unlocked, except if you buy from China Mobile or China Unicom because they sell both unlocked and locked.

Even if it is unlocked, it may still not work in North America or other countries. The SIM card or frequency used in other areas may not be compatible with the phone bought in China. The phone has to have the multi-band, and dual mode.

Best to buy in Hong Kong if you want to use it abroad in the future. most phones here are locked (if they are genuine).
