I want to get my Christmas shopping done with earlier this year and have started to explore Taobao as an economical source for presents. A few family members have requested silk scarves but the only shops I've been to have been super expensive with most of them costing 800-1000 RMB a pop. Then I checked Taobao and found more reasonably priced silk items. But obviously there's the whole fake problem and you won't know if it's genuine until it's delivered to you. What to do, what to do!
on Taobao, its hit or miss, meaning you have a 50% chance on anything there being real! Study the comments from the users that bought their stuff. The good news is you can return it if its fake.

the natural follow up question is, "is there another way that setting it on fire to see if it is silk or plastic?" not even the most friendly taobao store owner would accept returning burnt goods.
Difficult to be sure, which is genuine. even the comments are offen fake and paid by shop owners. don't ask me how I know Ypu can always, always you can return the purchased item and get money back, offentimes, so try it. when it come wrong, simply ask for return, best ask it even before purchasing.
like many products that are also faked, the best way to check if silk is real is visually and by touch.
Nessquick:
yeah, but how to know ? someone say it is super smooth, other say the supersmooth is fake and have to be a bit hard beside of smoothy. so confused.
Buying anything here with the promise of being 'genuine' is asking for trouble.
Avoid it, best to buy the genuine item and pay a little extra for it. You could go on 55tuan.com or similar, it's a Chinese version of groupon and there and many variations so take your pick. The stuff on there is more likely to be genuine. I've grabbed a good few deals on there through the years, just be warned there are tons of restaurant deals on there and you may become addicted to searching for your future meals on it, you'll save tons of cash but you may get a big belly!
