Q: Can an expiring work permit, become a 1-month tourist visa?

Hey everyone

My work visa (residence permit) expires on 28 April. I was hoping to travel for a bit before having to leave China. I read somewhere that you can go to any PSB close to date of expiry and give the authorities notice that you want to cancel it. Thereupon it will transform (like magic, lol) into a tourist visa valid for a month. Sounds too good to be true. Anyone know anything about this? Or perhaps another way to squeeze some extra time outta my visa? Thank you.

30-days visa extension grant is mandatory at the end of the Contract/end of RP!

I always got 30-days extension (4 times at least) at completing the Contract.

Purpose of extension is either 'traveling and exiting China' or 'changing of RP sponsor without exiting China'.

Ah! Helpful! So how do I effect this extension icnif77? Thanks for the info!

School took you to the Exit-Entry PSB and you got present/Contract length RP.

A week before RP ends, School must take you to PSB again for 30-days extension grant, which purpose is either 'prepare yourself for exit/travel around China' or 'head to the new RP sponsor city', where your new RP sponsor has 20-25 days to apply/get new FEC and new Contract length RP extension a week before 30-days extension ends. You'll might be required new MExam, also.

Amazeballs :) Thank you.

do you know if one can go to the exit/entry PSB on her own with her release papers from employer? Or do you have to be accompanied by employer?

and does it have to be the same exit/entry PSB as the one who granted the Residence Permit, or can it be any old one?

No, you can't do it alone, I think! I always had School's rep. with me to show some School's docs. and speak with copper in Chinese.

You don't need Release letter for that! Just School rep. and you with passport.

It also might be some changes at this procedure as new Law is out. My last 30-days extension was in 2013.

You get an extension only when you complete the Contract, so you must go to the same PSB, which gave you last RP.

2 weeks before RP expiration start bothering rep. with it. Go to PSB not earlier than a week before RP ends, 'cause cops will send you away, if you come earlier than a week before RP ends.
