in the past you might have been able to if you knew the right people and were willing to teach in the rurals. Getting the TESOL would be a sinch. Why not spend the two weeks to get it?
TESOL will be easy for any experienced language teacher. So it is a very short term acquirable licence.
Do art teachers need TEFL too? I have a teaching certification and 5 years experience.

TEFL at English teaching is necessary, but we don't need teacher's license.
English teachers can go from lickin' an ice cream, i.e. native English speakers straight to the English teaching in the classroom ...

Many teachers I've met, behave like they're "N. Armstrong-Returning-to-the-Earth's-Surface"
