Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: changing your mind after work permit and invitation letter is issued
Was offered a position, accepted and sent paperwork. Now a better position has come, is it possible to decline even if they issued an invitation letter for me. I know the contract is not valid till both parties sign.

im confused, the question sais visa was issued but then u sais just invitation letter. If you have a Z visa already, then its not easy to change. They really wont take it kindly having you leave before you even arrive after they put all that work in. Anything is possible but if you continue, grt ready for some headaches.
If you havent signed a contract and they just sent an invitation letter then you should be fine to just ignore them and start dealing with your new school.

Yup, exactly what Mike said.
Invitational letters don't mean they have a visa there ready and waiting for you. You use it to get the visa... in theory... but who knows with some of these schools.
On the other hand, if they already registered the Z visa and went through the trouble for you... then they will probably get pissed and try to blacklist you. Chinese are very vengeful lol.
With your signed Contract, School will apply for Working Permit. After WP is granted, you'll apply for Z in Chinese Embassy in your home country (or HK). I assume, you don't have Z or WP, yet.
'Blacklisting' would happened after WP is issued, so I think, you can accept better offer, and wait for new WP application. However, you must sign Contract first!
An invitation letter from a company costs them nothing.
I suspect the OP has been asked to apply for an L or M visa.
If that's the case OP, then I suggest you do a bit more research and don't get on a plane without a Z visa.
Sorry everyone, I have no clue how the process works. Basically I signed the contract and was told they were getting visa. But now I know it is just the work permit and invitation letter.
So question is it okay to decline this offer and take another before I apply for the working visa?
I thought it is contract signed, then invitation letter to get Z visa, then arrive in China, then get work permit, in that order. Did I get that wrong?
How do they blacklist you? Do they contact other schools/ agencies and tell them not to employ you?..Or is there some kind of official way they can do it?....Or is it a load of bravado and merely a threat?
