Q: Charities for the poor in China

Is any of them legit? Do you believe that the money is going to the poor people?

My company held a charity today, I am almost 100% sure that the money will end up the owner's or the local government's pockets as they were unable to give me the charity's name and contact informations, thus I gave only 5 RMB.

You shoulda only gave 1 RMB.   That way you would have saved 80% of the 5RMB which you know will be wasted.  The 1 RMB is all you needed to buy the little amount of face necessary to help you escape condescension.  It would probably still gurantee that you were one of the top contributors!  If anybody mentioned how little it is, you could tell them to imagine if everybody in China gave that much ;)

There are some charities, and e.g. here in town we have people organizing fundraisers to help different local projects. At these fundraisers, there is always some Chinese grabbing his share, e.g. the owner of a venue sure wouldn't give  adiscount for a worthy cause.

Red Cross operates in China too

The Red Cross has been slammed in the media for about the last two years. I don't think there's much trust left now.

Yeah, the Red Cross here were shafted after that girl boasted online about how much money her sugar daddy made from working from them.

For reasons mentioned above, Red Cross is a terrible idea to have in this country.   *Cough* Guo Mei Mei  *Cough*   perfectly bangable chick, but shouldn't have had anything to do with a charity.  (she dresses her foreign boyfriend up in makeup last I saw)
