Q: Did you hear about MH17?

Another plane tragedy, this time less mysterious than MH370.

Stuff that has ticked in on my WeChat this morning

* "They have found the plane" (as in MH370)

* "It is really dangerous to fly with Malaysian Airlines"

I hope China will give as much effort to finding someone to blame for this tragedy as they did/do for MH370.

I have a flight today with Thai Air, too confused as my family asked me to cancel that until two days... don't know what the heck should I do... ????

Scandinavian:

You should probably just get on the plane. The most danger will be the trip to the airport. You can increase your survival rate 10 fold by not stopping for street food on the way

You'll be fine. Your plane is not going to be shot down, you have more chance to die in a traffic accident.

Like that Dutch person, you can also post the picture of the plane before boarding it..

What are the odds of two planes going down in two days. Your odds should be good.

@CharlieB. The odd of two planes going down the same day is the same as the odd of one plane going down. Each flight bears its own set of risks, and one plane going down is not going to lower the risks of other flights.

In this case of course, The chance of rebels having endless ammo is nil, but the probability of them having more than one missile is high.

ah, it's a bit of wind, the worst part of it passed Zhuhai at 10am today, I was out with the dog at that time. It is rough on Hainan, but GZ will get a dash of rain.

It's not unsafe to fly Malaysian or Thai, or any other major airline.

MH17 was just at the wrong time at the wrong place. Hundreds of passenger jets cross conflict areas daily. If you've ever flown from/to the Middle East, between Pakistan/India/Sri Lanka and Europe  you've likely flown above Iraq/Afganistan/Syria/Gaza.

As far as I remember this is the third time a civilian passenger jet has been shot down. Mid 80's Soviet Air Force shot down a Korean Airlines Boeing 747 in Soviet Airspace, 1995 or 96 American navy radar identified a Iran Air passenger jet as a fighter airplane and shot it down in the Mediterranean.

I hope that international investigators will gett access to the impact zone and wreckage and that the guilty party will be brought to justice. I also hope Putin shuts the fuck up and dies in a fire him self.

It is the 4th plane to be shot down this week in Ukraine. It lookslike the rebels shot this one down too. This is what happens Russia when you give high end military equipment to untrained civillians! They obviously mistook it for another Ukrainian military transport (they already shot one down this week). They lacked the experience or radar technology to properly identify the plane.

Scandinavian:

if your tinfoil hat is not properly strapped on, you might think they wanted to shoot down the Russian presidents plane.

diverdude1:

nope, but I haven't read anything much except the headlines and viewed pics of crash site.  anyway, what is the significance (real or supposed) of the passenger taking the pic of plane?

A Dutch man who was about to board that MH17 took a picture of that plane before boarding it and posted it on Facebook saying " if the plane disappears, this is how it looks like"

Little did he know that in fact his picture was going to be famous

surprising DPRK haven't shot anything down yet

Stiggs:

I'm pretty sure planes fly around that place, for the obvious reason.

or else planes just cross DPRK and they keep trying but their copy of Chinese missiles can't cut the mustard.

I guess, since the CCTV evening news today, spent the first 15 mins on what could have been an intense drinking session

http://answers.echinacities.com/question/did-you-ever-try-cctv-7pm-news-...

that China doesn't really give a f%¤& about lives of anyone else. Sooooo much of the dear leader walking around, gay Brazillians on horseback parading and stuff. I get that BRICS is important to China, but it sure seems like a news show planned by the harmony ministry.

royceH:

This is typical fare for CCTV News.  It's nothing other than propaganda designed to make China look strong and progressive and others to look belligerent and disorganised.

Chinese TV news:

First quarter:  look how hard our leaders are working.

Second quarter: look how good China is.

Third quarter: See how shit everyone else is.

Last quarter:  A quick reminder on how good China is.

British TV news (BBC):

Whole program: All doom and gloom today. You may as well stay in bed. And it's raining..but feel good because the whole world envies us.

American TV news ( Fox):

First quarter: Obama is Shit.

Second Quarter: Guns are good.

Third Quarter: Obama is shit.

Last quarter: Guns are good.

Al Jezera are actually turning out to be one of the better news channels.

Sorry. This is not really the thread for such comments.

I don't watch news but I saw that on the subway car's TV when coming back from work, people were watching and talking about it (usually nobody watch that TV thing) so it caught my attention. They were probably wondering whether or not there was many Chinese on board like in the previous one.
