Q: Did you ever try the CCTV 7PM News Drinking Game?

No? Perhaps you don't know the rules.

Sit down in front of the telly with your best friends (imaginary ones count too) and a beer of your choice

Each time they say "Xi Jinping" you drink

If you do not think this is challenging enough you can add the "Old bored fart" rule. Each time you see a guy in a suit and tie sitting looking bored, you take a shot of hard liquor.

I tried the game but with different rules. Everytime I heard "zhong guo" during the commercials I had a drink. I passed out before the commercials ended. lol

Scandinavian:

As with one of the most popular family games of all times, Monopoly, the C7NDG encourages house rules.

I watched the CCTV English language news last night at 5 PM.  The name "Xi Jingping" or "President Xi" was said 20 times in the first 20 minutes.  I was hammered by the end of the show.

Scandinavian:

I was thinking about the Chinese language version news as it may remove focus from the game if you completely understand what it being said.

Update to the rules. If you play with the "Old bored fart" rule and there is a streaker behind the old bored farts, you must immediately empty all alchohol within a 2 meter radius.

Hmmmm, today the game ended for me less than 3 mins in. There was a strange gap, where the magic words were not said for more than a minute, I think. Anyways. I had to quit as I apparently only had one beer in the fridge, and having just been out in the heat, it went down faster than Steve Irwin in a tank full of stingrays.

royceH:

I'm pretty sure Steve lasted more than a few minutes after being stung by that thing.

About ten years ago I walked into a pub after playing tennis in the middle of the day in high summer.....and a bloke bet me I couldn't drink 7 middies in ten minutes.  They went down in less than five and I ordered a schooner to wash them down...still had a couple of minutes to spare.  Good bet, that one.

Today's headlines:

"On a speech in Brazil, Xi Jinping proposes the foundation of a Multilateral Democratic Internet Administration System"

http://news.163.com/14/0717/16/A1CAB1F500014JB5.html

I just couldn't resist, it's all just filler to an extent it's not even meant to make sense anymore.

The old fart one would be a killer. There's often a shot of a room full of them.

Thats almost the same as the Cantonese version. Only in this one, you watch the Hong Kong news, and every time the news cuts out abruptly to a commercial break without warning you chuckle smugly and then take a shot.

I was getting lit regularly during last months Vietnam fiasco.    Oh! the chinese ship is gonna hit the viet......." haha, oh you silly China" drink!

The other day I played a new version of the CCTV 7pm news drinking game (really need a catchier name for it C7NDG)

I was a a private dinner with the wife. After dinner I am ordered to the sofa, and the man of the house comes joins me. He has a homebrew (a baijou that hes had some stuff floating around in to make the taste acceptable) He offered me a thimble of this alcoholic beverage. As it would, this was just when the 7pm news started. Without the poor guys knowledge the game started. I was gentle to him, it wasn't bottoms up at each "Xi Jinping" but just nibbling the thimbles.

This version of the game makes it more Chinese in my mind. The end result is the "small man" being run over by "the big man", because I could walk in a straight line after the news, he couldn't.

Happy gaming.

ScotsAlan:

Was it the home made plum wine?

I love that stuff.

Best served from a teapot into tea cups as one sits out in front of a Yao minority house wink.

My wife has a friend in Shenzhen who makes a wicked version of that particular brew indecision

Scandinavian:

I don't know what they are called. They are often used dried. Looks like giant red raisins.

SwedKiwi1:

Giant red raisins sounds like what the Chinese call dates. They make everything of and with this so it could be that the drink was made of red dates.

Was it any good?

Scandinavian:

It could have been dates yeah.

It was pretty good. Don't know what the base baijou used was, he only said it was a "50 degrees" which is a bullshit way of telling alcohol-PERCENTAGE. Get with the metric system people.

It was very decent. A bit of sweetness, more smooth than any baijou I've tried. Gave  anice warm feeling akin to having a good sip of whisky. Overall, I'd say this is the way to go for baijou drinking.

I am sure this is done in other parts of the world too. Back home in Scandinavia, we often take a tasteless vodka and then soak some nice stuff in it to get "our own drink" E.g. walnut is brilliant. Takes a couple of months, but you can get a golden clear, almost cognac like drink..... that is then hammered for breakfast or whatever us crazy vikings do.

A couple of additions to the C7NDG rule set

1) Drink at every mention of Xi Jinping

2a) Bored old fart rule. If you see people in suits looking bored (and old) drink

2b) If the camera is panning across people (bored or not) and you cannot quite make out if it is a still image they are panning or actual moving images, drink (this is the Yu Zhengsheng rule)

3) (this one is difficult and requires logistics to be top notch) If Xi is in play in a foreign country, drink that country's stereotypical drinks. E.g. if he is in Russia meeting with Putin, you drink vodka, if Putin is in China you drink baiju. - Castro would be Rum, Tony Abott - Beer, Bohuslav Sobotka - Becherovka, Barak Obama - Budweiser, os just a cup of water, no difference really. Etc.

Janosik:

You have it wrong for Czechs.

Czechs drink the most beer per capita in the world.

And even though Becherovka is kind of the Czech traditional liquor so the most popular strong alcohol would be either Slivovice (a bit reminds bai jiu so Czechs and Slovaks usually do not have big trouble to drink it in China) or Rum (but made of potatoes, not sugar cane).

I've been here two and a half years and never heard of this. Do you think Chinese people play this game down at the barbeque?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
