My friend told me he knows one guy who used to be a beggar in his country(USA)is an English teacher in
Beijing.
10 years 25 weeks ago in Teaching & Learning - China
My friend told me he knows......you lie! Fork off!.... the table...
I don't see what's stopping them, I knew a beggar in London and he made more money than me. The guy had a Fireblade. Sat there in the street in a sleeping bag sending text messages, and people just dropped money on him.
Jon Stewart on 'English grammar':
“‘Is not monitoring,’ ‘will not monitor,’ I think you’re missing a tense there,” Stewart joked. “You got your present progressive there and you got your simple future, but you’re missing your past progressive, a.k.a. the ‘we were not.'
“By the way that joke brought to you by grammar,” he added. ’Grammar, it's the rules what make your mouth feel dumb! ” Hilarious!

some school don't even have a look at the certificates.. you are white, you are an English teacher. Whatever background you have, Beggars, criminal, etc. Its China
icnif77:
OP: and, you're talking out of your 'teaching' experience in China?
rabiya1102:
nothing like that.. im just sharing with you what i've seen in some schools i've worked. obviously beggars are not criminals..
icnif77:
A: 'How much is return plane ticket SF to China?'
B: 'Not that much! We'll have to hang on the corner for a week, and we're good to go to China!'
mike168229:
Well, why would beggers not be able to become English teachers?
There may be some very well qualified beggers out there that just can't get a job.
rabiya1102:
mike for sure.. but i'm referring to beggars that never went to school.. not qualified people that cant get a job in their country.. They are qualified and get a job here its fine.. but i have nothing against beggars.. don't take me wrong.. its just that i have some friends.. well qualified.. but not so white.. so cant get a job here..
Matty strikes again or was it the Empire strikes back all I know he /she is playing with Hands Solo
Red_Fox:
Phil: Matty/Silva is back in full ghostly regalia wielding (ineffectively) a double-edged sword, dull as both edges may be: richirocks and anonymous.
philbravery:
Ohh no, there is another one so it is more like a trident , but I will let the rest of you work out which one it is . however the clue is "He/She"
Actually there was one in Houjie last year, he was an English teacher that fucked up all his jobs and burnt bridges with every school. No joke.
ironman510:
There many like this, we call them: the maturing young adults learning on the job how to be an adult. There's no mommy to run to in China, so being burnt by the fire will shape up their attitude problems or send them to a jail or worse. I meet and met a lot of arrogant U.S, U.K, AUS, S-AFR people out here who think their the king and feel 100%, but I always tell them: Just because they need you doesn't mean they'll keep you with an attitude like yours. But usually they get themselves kicked out the door before a pink slip is handed to them.
Been watch it for years. (shaking my head) So too all wanna be's: You bad a** self is your downfall in China. It's not the company who fires you, you fire yourself by not being satisfied with what you got and the people you work around. So your bad a** self acts up and goes on fire and says: Hey I ain't taking this sh*t anymore, you won't stop the parents from walking in my class then I'm leaving, now, today. BYE.
You left because the parents walked into your class to watch their children, give me a break. (True story).
hiddenjelly:
Yeah, except this guy is around 50. He even went to South America got refused entry and returned to china to be broke and homeless, I don't know why he came back to dongguan instead of going to another city where he's not known.
There are two kinds of beggars, those who say they will spend their beggins on alcohol and those who don't. The first type are good honest people, why should they not be allowed to teach Chinese children about English .... and Western values.
Anyone who would believe this, does not have the ability to think. You need an address, actual address. Passport, and a host of other ids to get a passport. Internet access, computer. 1500usd- 2000usd , just to make the move, at the bare minimum (flight and first month's living expenses).
Now Chinese people have a wonderful ability to take things out of context (see the story about them petitioning the government over the Jimmy Kimmel Show , the government does not have the authority to ban a show, ABC studio executives must be laughing their asses off). If I say, "I was once homeless, and had to live in a cheap hotel for 7 days." (which is true) They would key in on "homeless" only. Then twist it to I "am" homeless, beggar, They do not understand the concept of past tense in relation to present tense and future tense.
And being poor does not mean someone is a bad person.
It's true. I was a beggar before coming to China.

I can vouch for you. I gave you a quarter on the corner of Main and Jackson. Kansas City or was it Raincouver? Remember? It was raining that day. The coin resounded quite nicely as it dropped into your tin cup and you looked up to me through your coke-bottle sunglasses and said, "Thank you, suh." Then you went back to rocking your head incessantly back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. I think you even offered me a chewed-up Number 2 pencil, but I declined the kind gesture. Glad to see you're still alive and well. See you around the square. Main and Jackson... You: Me: Remember?
Off topic: ironman, parents walking into classes is an epic pain in the butt. Distracting for the kids, sometimes embarrassing for the actual kid, distracting and annoying for the teacher, disrupts the flow of a class, shows a distinct disrespect for the teacher and school. I never walked out of class, just told my assistants to get. them. out. now. please.
Hulk:
Lucky you.
We had every single parent in there watching me give lessons. It was... nerve-wracking.
At least they all beat their kids when they misbehaved.
sorrel:
one class i had in the training school i taught in - ALL the parents sat in the back of the class one day, including a General. He sat in the centre, looking directly at me all the time. nothing scares me now
Perhaps, but theyd make better money back in the west if they chopped off their legs and dipped their head in a vat of hot acid and laid on the ground outside of subway stations seeing slurred drinking songs.. Chinese beggars stop at nothing to get that extra jiao.
Why would they come, when they can beg more money overseas and live in a cleaner country. It's rare to see a beggar in my country.
Red_Fox:
You're damn right it's rare, Ted, in your neck of the woods. Moose, polar bears, and a few Russian cross-country marathon skiers who missed the turn, took a right instead of a left, and are now probably somewhere in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan wondering how they're gonna get home if they don't beg for change. Cause it's all uphill going from south to north... (And Russia sure needs a little change, eh?)
