Q: Do you exercise at all in China? Yes, you...you lazy SOB!

Well, Summer is just around the corner and when you go the beach you usually see two types of Chinese people:

1) Porky - Not usually obese but obviously much fatter than normal Chinese people. Sometimes these guys get confused with "strong" because Chinese aren't really used to seeing muscular large men (talking like U.S.A. bodybuilding)... maybe took a little bit more than a liking to MacDonald's and KFC.

2) Sticks - These are the other side of the spectrum. Extremely thin, 100 pounds soaking wet, a strong breeze will blow them over. Favorites foods include "rice" and "more rice".

You will rarely see some full figured fit women (will not often anyway) or decently sized muscular Chinese men. I figure most Chinese don't like working out much... and when I do see them in the gym... they don't work out hard.

I go to the gym and do a good combination of weights and cardio. For the past month or so, I been going to the gym in the morning (weekdays) for about 1.5 hours and then working out in my home gym (evenings) for another 45 minutes each day. Just trying to break some previous personal records and get in shape for some trips.

So what about you? Do you exercise at all? What kind of exercise do you do? Got any goals for the Summer? Or are you just a lazy sloth bastard?

I do aerobics in my room - a friend of mine at home allows me to SKYPE into her morning class at the weekend.

It is a bit of a challenge at times.

My nearby gym was full of pot-bellied gawpers so i gave up going there.

I also occasionally exercise my wit, as i see many other posters here do surprise

Yes. I like to go for a run. Especially on the really warm days or during typhoons. No people to run into and seems the heat doesn't kill my performance.

Seems like a lot more people here exercise than I thought. Good to hear it.

The gym has been a bit of a nuisance in China. My gym, which is pretty good (except that one idiot staff member), the only annoying part is I have to make about a 20 minute drive each way to get there.

Prefer to use the closer one but it's too crowded.

Then why don't you run there?indecision

I just do pullups at home, forward and backward ones. They're the most comprehensive exercise next to swimming I reckon.

royceH:

Cycling is the most comprehensive exercise.  Swimming is basically useless unless the swimmer gets their heart rate up high enough.  And I've never seen a swimmer who does.

Last night I beered with my mate who tried really hard to convince me to come swimming with him.  Stressed how I'd appreciate looking at all the groovy chicks but even the lure of that isn't enough to get me to jump into a tub containing 4000 people's piss.

I meant comprehensive in engaging the most number of muscles during the workout. I don't do much cardio.

I worked out in china as i did at home, but just didn't work.

I cannot get the food I want and need to push forward as fast as I can.

At home it took me only 2 month to get to 80 kg bench, but here i just cant make it happen.

How do you get your nuitrition? I used to have 7 meals a day but here? cant even get a real afternoon snack (like almonds - yo would spend like 400 RMB per week just for that)

Milk products with low fat? doesn't exsist -.-

The rice sucks here and the chicken breast is not the same as at home and probably will kill me soon

RobRocks:

Iam 115 kg,I eat good food that my wife cooks.here in Shenzhen you can get pretty much any kind of food you want.

I also use Phase 8 by muscletech and my preworkout which my wife buys off taobao.

sure cooking and eating normal is ok and you still make progress but much slower than with the right diet.

and yes so can buy almost everything but it eats up your money.

which i just cannot buy in china that was my protein giver is: curd/junket/quark (however i say that)

in germany that is tasty and super cheap and the best you can eat before sleeping.

well if i do things i do it 100% full efford - so china makes me sad

I have a Chinese friend, he is 46 years old and build like a brick. He has a 6 pac, absolutely ripped, in great shape. But yeah it's true, there aren't many built chinese guys.

I work out once a day for like 15 minutes but it's just moderate exercise.
