These things seem to be all the rage here but at home, at least when I left, would be social suicide.
Are they practical and do they really keep people warm.
I guess you mean lightweight down coats or jackets.
If so, then yes, they're fantastic.
I just got a new one yesterday. It's very light and will squash into about the size of sweet potato.
Wore it today with only a vest and a decent long sleeved shirt. Temp below zero and I was as warm as toast.
If you live in a cold place, get one!
It's one of those things like a murse or a manbag, feel free to get one if you really feel the need but just make sure you are never photographed with one or ever admit to owning one!
If you have the points use them to get ECC to supply you with a jacket. I finally decided, after 3 years, to cash in my points and opted for a new jacket. I admit I was a bit skeptical about the quality I would receive but fear not. The jacket is fantastic and looks great!
Take a bow on that one ECC.

Scand how did you know I ordered a flashlight as well? I might add that it is also rather awesome and I use it on my bike.
Can't remember how many points it cost me but I think if you click on redeem you'll find out. I'm broke now!!
IrvineWelsh:
Ahh but I'm almost at the megatron adapter that has been my dream for a long time. Imagine never having to buy an adapter again.
Not sure about the quality though...
Rin:
1300 points for the jacket. But it doesn't look like a puffa in the picture. How are the sizes? XL being an M as with most Chinese clothes?
icnif77:
It's plastic raincoat, bUTT.....queue is very (too) long! In EU, you can buy car cover made of same material.
DaqingDevil:
Yeah watch out for the size. I got XL and it is a tad small. Quality was pretty good I thought and it has this nifty removable inner so, when it warms up enough you can still use the jacket without the inner.
Anyway, it's warm and the zip works - a wonderful thing becoz they don't work any more on my other jackets. I'm happy!
Oh- not a puffa BTW.im guessing you mean a down jacket. if you live in the northeast, its vital. i own 3 or 4. they save your life up here in winter. i don't think its possible to go outside without one in december, january, and february.

I agree total social suicide, and I have yet to buy one, but I'm told they are a must to survive winter here. I feel the same way about Ugg boots. Apparently they are also god-send during winter. But I just hate them so much.
andyinshenyang:
I think it really depends on how naturally resilient to the cold you are. I find I can survive quite easily here in Shenyang's winter wearing just a normal coat over a shirt and a pair of jeans. I have friends though who wear a couple of more layers and the locals wear more clothes than I own on the coldest of days!
Ugg boots are the worst on men- unless you're Australian of course then it's perfectly acceptable.
Anyone whose friendship was dependent on what kind of jacket I wore would be unlikely to survive my own criteria in choosing a companion. But no, I don't own one. Ewwwwww.
1994, that's the last time I had one. Black and white, Adidas.
Cost my parents a packet too.
But I was one of the trendiest guys in my school for a few weeks.
I should say I live in NOrthern China too and I have an old US Navy peacoat that I bought off ebay seven years ago. It still does the job perfectly.
Not being into fashion and not even knowing the term puffa jacket before reading this - All I'd like to really know is why all Chinese wear coats backwards? I mean what's that all about?
