Q: Does anyone else hate the expression "Hold 住"?

I'm seeing it used constantly everywhere and by everyone Chinese...in a forum, on weibo, in ads... I can't help but feel annoyed when I come across it!

hold住

[hold zhù / hold zhu4]
verb/expression.
A catch phrase that became popular after a comedy skit on Taiwan variety show 《大学生了没》 featuring a netizen named “Miss Lin” pretending to be a stylist spread on the internet. It means to hold steady, maintain composure, stay strong, stay calm, keep cool.

Isn't that ironic that word means to keep cool and these people have a meltdown.

Maybe because it sounds like "Hold you?" if you say it fast? Can you imagine if North Americans started garbling Chinese up like that to be cool and fashionable? The second- and third-gen Chinese would flipping freak out.
