Q: Finding Accommodation in Urumqi

My partner and I are both 27 year old language students in Urumqi. We are both from England.

We are looking for accommodation in the city within a reasonable commuting distance of Xingjiang University.

We are interested in flat shares or renting apartments.

If you or anyone you know has something that might be suitable please do get in touch. As we don't  speak Chinese (yet!) we will struggle with letting agents.

Many Thanks

Hi - What's your budget?  It's quite hard to find accommodation in Urumqi because of the difficulty in registering at police stations, you can't stay on campus?  When do u need the place by?

I live in Urumqi too.

katiep:

Hi,

we can't stay on campus because only I am at the university, not my boyfriend. We could spend a maximum of 2,000 per month but have been looking mostly at flats 1300-1500. We would be happy renting a room in someone else's place.

The problem is partly the length of time because we are not able to commit to a whole year as we'll probably be moving on some time early next year.

Cheers

Katie

oh and re: when we need a place by - as soon as humanly possible! We are living in a youth hostel at the moment and we are gagging to have a place to cook and have our own space!

A:Yes, you can get legal ET job by the Chinese Labor law.  Problem is, most Chinese managers and recruiters don't know, they can obtain Working permit for a non-native English teacher with BA completed in a native English country. I'd suggest, you mention possibility of legal employment for non-native English teacher with degree completed in a native English country at the first interview. It's a tough time in China at your example, IMO.  Most recruiters and hiring managers in China know only "ET must hold a native English passport ..", so your job application get dismissed right there. The other thing is, never stop sending your CV to the job offers doesn't matter if no replies. At my time in China (pre-2017), I'd send CVs to every offer posted daily.I've even disregarded advert's requirement 'native English passport holder', and ... I got a reply or two in a month time. Take the last paragraph as a rule! Good luck!   -- icnif77
