Q: Fixed Gear bikes worth it?
I probably won't get one back home, but maybe I'll indulge my inner hipster now. I imagine the price is 1000 kuai and up, yes? Am wondering what my fellow hipsters think of their rides, and if anyone is recommending it.
One more thing: I do love to ride, but have never been on a fixed gear. Am looking forward to the sensation of "braking with my feet".

I don't ride my bike often, but growing up the best bike I ever had was a fixed gear. The gear was low, easy to pedal. My bike now has 18 speeds and I probably use 2. One bad thing about hand brakes is they don't always hold in the rain. The gear will make the bike if its right for you,too high too hard to pedal, too low you pedal too much. Look for a light weigh bike.
Scandinavian:
nowadays you can get some pretty good brakes that will keep working in the rain. my old road bike had Shimano brakes that would have enough bite to stop no matter how wet it was. (the problem then being lack of friction between bike and road when it is wet)
The brakes also needs to be well adjusted so it's possible to get a good feel with how much pressure needs to be applied so you can control anything from slightly slowing down, to just about locking the wheel.
Never tried it...bought a Merida MTB for around 1000 kuai...
I also want one. I just sold my TREK MTB (18 speed)... it was bad-ass,,, but maybe time for a change...
any bike is a good bike (except those little folding clown-bikes,,,, cannot dig it)
fixed gears are great if you've got the energy to ride it. I myself wouldn't get one as you lose the thrill of sailing down the hill that you've just pedaled up!
