Q: Getting a Chinese GF/BF mainly for the purpose of language study, recommended or reprehensible?

I'm sure we have all heard someone recommend getting a Chinese girlfriend or boyfriend when trying to learn the language. How do you guys feel about that being the main factor in picking someone up? I'm of two minds. It does seem to achieve its goals but there is something cold and calculated about it too.

you really don't have to seek love with the intention of learning language . nobody likes the idea that they're loved just because they're useful, because how would you expect them to stop wondering :when one day I'm no longer useful ,will you still love me ?
A better option is to make friends with those who are willing to help your Chinese language study and practice of it . through the communication you can learn more about your language partners and find someone who fits you ,who you really like , who you want to date with . it's more flexible in this way . there are so many Chinese students who would like to teach you Chinese language.

I agree. One can have a genuine language partner which will result in a fulfilling friendship AND language practice without having to break anyones heart or hurt feelings later on down the road.

Sadly, too many people just want to f*ck the "dictionary" and then move on when a prettier or more handsome dictionary appears. That is just plain mean.

If that's the main factor then that's is pretty F'd up in my opinion. How is that any different from a gold-digger? You shouldn't go into a relationship with the intention of extracting something from the person. That's just warped and manipulative. I call those people 'language whores'. Relationships should form because of mutual feelings towards each other, period. Wow, I'm a real softy today!

The last thing that I consider when I meet a woman is does she speak English. I have a translator in my pocket.

Not judging the morals of this, but I think the potential for having to deal with psychopathic behavior would take away your attention from learning the language. (I am talking about the MIL factor)

I am pretty sure most people were not suggesting that would be the main reason for getting a gf/bf here. It was listed as a perk (if you like that sort of thing) not the main reason to fool someone into rubbing their genitals on you.

I'd say, its a very stupid Idea.

what you said ,It's like doing business, you have to get some benefits from her, otherwise, you are not going to be with her.
Love should not be like that.

If she speaks English then it won't work out for you, you will be lazy and just speak English. I know from experience.

If you want to study Chinese then go get a foot massage often, the girls there are very chatty and always ask the same questions so there's repetition.
