Check this out nielsjorgen:
Guijie does NOT actually mean 'Ghost Street', contrary to popular belief.
The character is actually 簋, which is an old type of wicker or bamboo round basket.
Anyway, stuffy etymology aside, Guijie is a great place to go with a big group of friends for a meal and drinking. There are no bars per se, only restaurants, but they all serve cheap beer and are usually open 24 hours, or at least until sunrise!
If your local friends think it's overpriced, they are missing the point. The lights (red lanterns), the decorations, the atmosphere (laid back), and the 'renao' is what it's all about.
Lots of people end up there after a big night drinking, when they've got the munchies!
Definitely try it sometime!

Yes you should try it out! I agree with the post above. If anything you can always create some interesting stories about going to ghost street once in awhile.

I wouldn't say that the food is overpriced it all depends on the person's budget. If you don't like to splurge your cash on food then it may not be a good place to get your filling. But you should definitely try it out if the price isn't an issue for you.

The guidebooks that you read will only include places that are interesting or that most people have had the experience to go there once in awhile. It sure beats going to an empty park and you can meet a lot of people there. You don't have to go there for just the food they have other things going on at ghost street! wink
