Q: Has China lost the compass (which was invented by China ironically)

Historically ,China has been dependent on "evil foreigners" for knowledge, technology & economy .They were dependent on Western counties for educating  its 'scholars' in early 1900s.They were heavily dependent on Russia till early 1960s for technology .But they somehow couldn't accept the dependence after a while and suffered from some kind of superiority complex and kicked the Russians out. Then followed a period of dark age till China decided to make new ties

with West.It seems this new cycle is coming to an end too.Once again China is confident that 'perhaps' it doesn't

need West so much and becoming increasing arrogant (as they were with Russians in 1960s ).

The idea is  "I already learnt everything from West, now I can manage myself...kick them out".Same thing happens

with foreign employess...they learn from foreigners and kick them out after learning from them, believing I got what I need

I'll not need them 'ever again'.  Besides, "China is a great country with 5000 years of history. Why should we need foreigners to manage China,it is humiliating".

Is China going to make the same mistake again ?Is China heading towards another dark age  ?What do you think?

Personally, I don't think China is closing itself to the world again. Looking at the last few decades, I think they have realized that they cannot be isolated. The fact that they still send students overseas in ever increasing numbers means the need for knowledge is still present. Foreign companies are still investing heavily in China. We may get isolated discrepancies against foreigners and/or foreign companies, however, it is worthwhile to note that most of these discrepancies are not due to China wanting them out. Take Google and Facebook for instance. They are not in China because they do not conform to local regulatory requisites. I'm sure each country has their own regulations to ensure the safety of their citizens. It's just that China is more stringent. Does being stringent mean not wanting them here? I beg to differ. While my answer seem China centric, I am by no means agreeing that everything they do here is right. I just need to remember that they have just come out of a very dark period and still fumbling to to get things right. We scoff at many of their attitudes, policies and what not but each time we do that, do we look back at the times when we were also somewhat similar? Perhaps the timeframes are different but I dare say what we did is not so different from what they are doing now. China is behind all of us by at least 20 years in terms of social behavior, business enterprise and technology. Take a look at India , Pakistan and Bangladesh and you will see that they are not any different. But do we say these countries are also withdrawing into darkness? We feel slighted because they do not conform to our beliefs, our way of life and our culture. Does that make them less human? Like I said, I don't judge them by what they do but how I adapt to their way of life. This is their country after all and I'm sure their leaders have their visions about what is right for their own people. 5000 years of history has brought them here today and they are still here. Does that make them right? Or are we right? Who's to know?

5000 years of history is nothing, the rest of the world was more advanced, Where are China's great historical monuments, show me their pyramids? The first immigrants came to North America 15,000 years ago, that tradition is still practiced today.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
