I had a camera stolen once and I got scammed several times.
nope, but I've heard about a guy whose GF had the batteries from her ebike stolen. Also have a friend who has repeatedly had her iPhone stolen.
I have had my backpack opened several times while on a bus. The trick of never having anything valuable with me seems to work. E.g. yesterday I had a pair of boxers and an old t-shirt, both soaked in sweat, at the top. I would applaud anyone stealing that making my laundry burden less.
I've seen an old dude from my building steal from one of the local shops and getting chased all the way home by a furious shop owner. Of course as he passed the rent-a-cops cage, he didn't have to run anymore.
Our community frequently has notices saying to remember to close doors to buildings and not to let unknown people in. People don't give a sh!t though. Just today a young girl, whom I've never seen before, held open a gate for me. A quick analysis of her giggle as I said "xie xie" tells me she is in the market for a foreign husband.

hmmm, my patience has either been misplaced or stolen.
Only my heart.

YEah, specially while drinking water...cannot stop thinking of Dr. House and the heavy metals disease episode.
It's Lupus, probably lupus. hhahaha
1) Almost got robbed in a supermarket while walking to the exit door pushing the cart. The hand of the burglar was already into my pouch. I had the fast reaction of grabbing his hand while turning around, I'm just very sorry I didn't release the punch I charged at the same time. I had a 2 seconds of hesitation of not being 100% sure of what was happening. So I just 2 hands violently pushed him to the wall, just to see him pulling a knife out of his back before he ran away (2008 Shunde - Guangdong).
2) I month later got robbed in my apartment, while sleeping. Apartment at the 5th floor, very nice and new community but one side of it was toward a backstreet. I left the the window of the small bathroom where I had the washing machine open, and they did climb along the waterpipes. Got my laptop, wallet and my GF bag stolen. Tks God our documents have been found in the garden by the security. Note: couple of guys knocked my door 8am (was on a Sat morning), and when I opened, I've been asked: "anything missing in your apartment?" Just tell me you found our documents, for god's sake! Police came and made the proper investigation, filled up their paperwork and left. (2008 Shunde - Guangdong)
3) Got robbed once (pouch stolen) in the central park while sitting with an ice-cream chatting with a friend of mine. (2007 Shunde - Guangdong)
4) Car window smashed and my colleagues backpack robbed. I parked downtown, under a camera, in front of a restaurant, in full light, 10m from a bank and the ATM I was withdrawing from. (2011 Dongguan Houjie - Guangdong).
5) Seen a burglar stealing the lady walking in front of me and running away after jumping on his partner scooter (2012 Dongguan Houjie - Guangdong).

"stealing the lady walking in front of me" WTF. Kidnapping? Actually I think I've seen one: An an old woman was running off and shouting and a van just stopped and two guys got out and hauled her off. Really weird. It was fast too. Not police or anything - obviously. But with this kinda stuff I never know if it's criminals or just family that are oppressive control-freaks.

Sorry for my italinglish. Robbing I mean. The burglar grabbed her purse and the bag she was carrying.
Yes, it was funny in a rather sad way. Last year when I moved in I bought many things including bookcases, but how to carry it all up the stairs to my 5th floor apartment? I left the two "welcome" mats downstairs because there were two ladies watching their kids play. Who would steal them?
I spent another 50 RMB for taxis and 60 RMB to replace the mats they stole.
Thanks guys! Welcome to China!
Lots of little things while staying in hotels and I know I didn't loose them. I have a bag for electronics accessories, my white iPhone charger- poof, and I had just used it, another time the spare battery for my camera- poof. only little things in hotels, but they would have to be in my luggage to find them.
I lost a couple of phones.
My girl friend lost her phone, the batteries twice from my scooter and her dog. Collies don't wander off or get lost.
I borowed a beat up bike from my wifes sister. It was so bad I had to go to buy a new saddle for it. Ten minutes after a bought the new saddle I stopped to go in a store for two minutes after locking the bike. I came out of the store and it was gon?
Your story sounds the same as everyone else's that been to China including my own. I had a phone snatched from me and I've also been scammed. My bike was stolen, but I since got a new one.
TedDBayer:
ha ha, been to China? When have you ever not been in China? Why do you pretend, we all know you are a chinese pretending fake foreigner, probably old woman.
My mates ebike battery and that of his fiance have been stolen on a couple of occasions.
They know who it is, they just can't prove it and the local police aren't interested.

Mike....are you talking about Ryan?
Anyways I bought a brand new bike in HZ, locked it inside the downstairs of the apartment, next morning gone, so borrowed a friends bike for the day, locked it downstairs, to the stairs, next morning gone.

Nah, Blake. He has had the batteries welded into position now! lol
I had my PSP stolen from my house.. They could of taken anything else, but my PSP.. I was so gutted.
Seems I've been lucky, in the 4 years in China all I have had stolen is a bike that was chained up outside Walmart where all the other bikes are locked.
I guess im the only lucky one here: never got anything stolen in my 13yrs here..
I'm the unlucky one . I lost my Iphone5 2 weeks ago ,I 'm still so sad now. But I think no matter where you are , this things happened everywhere . you should take all your personal effects with you. Especially u r abroad in China.
