Q: Have you had your child baptized in China?

Assuming that you are married and that you and your wife are practicing Christians and that you are now living in China, if you have had children here in the PRC, have you had them baptized in church?  How as the baptism recorded?  Were you given a baptismal record?

Interesting comments above, although completely irrelevant to the topic. Hengshan Community Church at #53 Hengshan Road does dedication ceremonies for babies, they also do baptisms but not for children and one must complete a training session before being allowed. They have services 2pm and 4pm on Sunday afternoon and offer childcare during the 4pm service  if your child is old enough. http://shanghaifellowship.org/

You're right.....this is irrelevant to the topic but it is interesting that they don't baptize children. Why is that?

I think that chinese christians are not recognized by pop in Vatican, so would it have some other use than show off ? ( something in this mean, correct me if I'm wrong)

981977405:

There are many more Protestant Christians in China than there are Catholic Christians.  The Protestant Christians are more tolerated around here -- perhaps because of the main history of the Catholic Church in China -- and indeed the Protestants do baptism their children as well as newcomers to the faith.  There is a huge, government-built Protestant church in a very tony part of the city where I live and I have seen at least one baptism take place (on Easter Sunday as is the custom here).

I have not, nor would I do so even if I were still resident in the UK. I am a secular humanist and I am not willing to forcefully (or otherwise) indoctrinate my child as is done by so many religious people into a religion by fear of hell or damnation, (a totally unproven theory and in my opinion, mental torture of children). My daughter will receive no religious education save that which she personally asks for, then when she is old enough to understand I will ensure she knows the basics of all the main religions, then if she chooses a religion she can do so knowing it is HER belief not mine forced onto her.
