The only type of work allowed under a student visa will be an internship sponsored by the school you are attending and at the school you are attending. Anjy other type of work (for pay by anyone other than the school, or for free [receive no monetary pay]) will constitute a breaking of the Work Law and if caught, you will have to face consequences.

And those consequences could be one or a combination of:
- a monetary fine
- a jail term
- deportation

I have never been a student in China so this is from my limited understanding of the visa rules. I read them pretty thoroughly when the new rules came in a year or two ago

An X1 visa lets you enter china for the purposes of study - more than 180 days. Then you have 30 days to change it into a residence permit. A person with a residence permit for study who wants to take a part-time job or internship off campus should obtain approval from the school, then apply to the PSB (Exit-Entry Administration) for a notation to the residence certificate showing the part-time job or the location and period of internship off campus.

I'm sure there are small rules/details to be aware of that your school can provide you. Perhaps talk to some other people there who are working (legally).  As was mentioned above, it is best to follow the rules regardless of what some people will tell you. The consequences can be serious. No one needs that shit.

Best of luck.

You've just read 2 conflicting pieces of advice from forum users.

You're going to have to ask at the school, and your local PSB.

You're also likely to receive different answers.... :(

Go online and get the info direct(-ish) from the Chinese immigration department, or worst case scenario, SAFEA... and print it out!!! Then show the relevant people (if you can work).

I'd heard/read the same as iwolf posted recently. But definite needs checking with official sources.

The real answer is probably somewhere in the middle with a dash of random rule application in the city of your choice

Some information here but still vague and seems to depend on local city regulations. See section 14.

There is some sage advice. The local office will certainly have their own rules.

Local offices having their own rules? Tell me about it!!!!!!!

Off topic......

I transferred jobs/work permits from GZ to Shunde last year......easy process and only problem was having to fill in application form twice...the one downloaded from the website was out of date!

Now transferring from Shunde back to GZ.......need to get a new Z-visa due to local regulations! I understand Zhongshan has a similar stupid rule!

I'm considering a new job but have some concerns about the ubiquitous random requirement principle. Anything is possible. I have no guanxi no
