There are maybe more than white people, depends where I geuss. A Chinese VIP student (adult), told me that he liked me better than the last teacher, I asked why and he replied, ''because he was black.''

My jaw dropped.

But I think most of them have no problem with blacks, just some.

Just take a look at Crimo and then decide....you don't see many black people here that's because Chinese people don't want them teaching their kids English...well at least 85.55% doesn't!

As an American, honestly I have to say I love black people! American, English, Africa, or elsewhere. Sadly, I think black people have it bad everywhere. I remember a close friend (african guy from london) once joked with me about something, he asked "what is worse than being a foreigner in china?" and I replied "what?" he then said, "being a BLACK foreigner in China." It was made to be a joke, but in saying it, he was quite serious about it.

It's really quite sad.

This is a really thorny issue that has been dealt with here often.

I am not black and I am not  Chinese but I really appreciate the diversity my black friends in China bring to the place. That I can say without any doubt -- do I love all of them? No, everyone is human and everywhere there is good and bad.

My school hired a black teacher from Africa this year for the first in the almost 20 years that this school has been hiring foreigners.  The school used to be considered a "white man's preserve" (not my words at all).  They did so with trepidation and of course paid the poor soul a discounted salary.  Well, well, the guy has star and staying power and he is truly beloved by all, the teachers and the students, and truly by the students.  There was some question over the summer as to whether or not the school was going to continue the contract and when that thought leaked out, the students were on the verge of a revolt, with the other teachers not far behind.  He has taught all of us so much around here about humanity and teaching as well.

On the other hand, as every coin has two sides, the homes of several black teachers in a neighboring city were recently raided and searched by the PSB, quite seriously so.  Others around here have been deported for visa infractions, including a serious overstay, etc. but all of this has also happened to "white folk" around here, so no one has any exclusive on good or evil.

We all need a dose of tolerance and understanding, and I include myself first on that list, and then I include China second on that list, and maybe the United States, for all of its officious discourse on equal opportunity, maybe third.

I am a black male, and I travel to Dalian 2-3 times a year. My first trip was quite the experience. Everyone thought I was a NBA basketball player because of my height. My co worker speaks English and Mandarin, so that helped. I attracted huge crowds at the malls and restaurants, but other than that, I felt welcomed. Mostly the 30 and under crowd were more friendly.

Black friends are not welcomed from most of the Chinese. why?

CZ they think they are poor,

ppl here whence they see an African  automatically will think he is poor or he is from a poor country,

but there is an exceptions in the entertainment filed e;g

like DJ ,Mc, football player, basketball player... will be welcomed AND ACCEPTED BY

Sidi:

That's true, Africa has always been portrayed to be poor. Most Chinese people I have met think Africa is just one big poor country.

it depends on which town you are in. If  that town like Suining ,for example, they have never seen a black person, face to face then you've a problem. Everywhere you go all eyes will be on you. some people look at you with their judgmental eyes. But i don't really blame them because its their first to see a black person. Its just like back in Africa, if a white person go to a place where people have never seen a white person before, the reaction is the same.
