there is no doubt you will need a local business partner if you intend to do business in China
Don't be in a hurry and take your time in finding one.
You have to be sure you can trust them 100% as many random strangers who says "you can trust me" will approach you
ask for financial records from any potential partner:
Do they already run a successful business?
Do they have a business plan?
Can you verify what they say through a 3rd party?
Are you trying to sell a product someone will copy and sell at a lower price?
there is no excuse for not doing due diligence, as they will have the advantage over you ALL THE TIME in China.

thank you for this thought. i will put all this into concideration.
If you have money to invest you will have no trouble finding a Chinese 'business partner'.
It all depends on what you want to do
.
If you have a specific product in mind you can find the suppliers on alibaba. Give them a few orders and build up a business relationship. Then you can put forward a business plan to form a joint venture to exploit your market.
If you want to be a trader, that is a bit more difficult. You need your market, you need your suppliers and you need the logistics.
But as bill8899 says above..... you need money.
If you want to buy cheap stuff to import to your home country, why not contact an established trader and do the whole buy cheap sell high thing?

ah your last line is so important..
My country is way less developed than China.. So I have always dreamt of what you have mentioned... but never actually did that.. The only problem that I face is that I don't know how to buy cheap... where to find reliable traders... if I email a few traders I receive ten times more emails.. thus every time I think of it every time I drop the idea

this is very helpful. my main business is selling some products to china. i have done my research and i know the products will do very well. its a new thing in china and if i am able to tap the market now, i am bound to do great in future.

I know a couple of traders and times are tough for them.
They do all the legwork, find the suppliers, find new lines for the distributers etc then they get the price driven down.
A trader here might find a product they can buy for $3. The customer will pay $3.20 then sell it for $15 in their home country.
Then..... after all the work put in, the customers might try to cut out the trader out and approach the factory directly.
On top of that, a traders Chinese staff will probably try to set up their own company after a while and steal the customers.
Add into that cash flow issues ( you normally don't get paid till after your product has been at sea for 6 weeks), quality issues, qualification for foreign markets and a hundred other things.
It takes a very special person to be a trader. The guys I know who do it put in a lot of work for not much return. But they keep going, because they just need that one game changer product.
Importing into China is a totally different ball game all together. No matter how many deals are signed by Governments, import into China is very difficult.
There are some guys who do well. But they are the ones who come here with Government contracts, normally from the poorer countries.
Finding a business partner is extremely difficult, what I meant is finding one you can trust. Most of them will rip you off given the smallest opportunity. Take time to build relationships, visits their factories, offices, place of work etc. The real business people here will also want to know your background. Building relationships here means lots of dinners, night outings etc. if you don't have the patience then you will lose out. Talk about your products/services, don't talk money. Money comes only when both of you are sure. Last word of advice....be careful, very careful with contracts and agreements. If you sign it here, only Chinese laws apply, the English translation isn't worth the paper it's written on. And the interpretation is up to the courts. Get a reputable law firm to represent you.
http://www.chinalawblog.com have very good advices I urge you to read :)
Contact Victoria, she is looking for a foreign partner, she has a line on pumps and can demonstrate manually the fluid extraction process.
philbravery:

Don't want to spoil the expirence for you
hunny797:
victoria said a long time ago she is leaving this site never to come back again
why do you want "the nature of your business" to be successful???
why dont you simply want your business to be successful
what kind of partner do you need? Maybe we could discuss. Skype: laurazou123.
I've heard that if you are a foreigner you will need a Chinese business partner, and that partner will hold 51% against your 49% of the company, regardless who contributes more cash injection. Be careful of the shared banking authorizations and always do you own accounting. Not sure how true it is however always better to be safe and cautious. Keep an open mind.

Just a couple of points about this post:
Firstly, there is no stipulation anywhere that you must have a Chinese partner (or indeed any partner). There are plenty of wholly owned foreign enterprises in China with no Chinese ownership.
Secondly, there is no such thing as a shared account in Chinese business. Signatures are not used for financial transactions. Money can only be taken out using special cheques, the company legal representative stamp, the company financial affairs stamp and a password generator.
I think Victoria is looking for a foreign business partner.
We could consider being your business partner. Name what business you are interested in.
Dont trust in chinese for doing business otherwise it is very probably that you loose all your money, chinese will do everything for earning your money, no rule no ethics. I know many foreigners trusting chinese for doing business, and most of them being screwed up
I also can advise you most of chinese who want to make business with you very probably have contacts or guanxi so if you something happens you will have problems to protect yourself
