Q: how can i give my baby canadian citizenship?

I am a Canadian who has lived in China nearly ten years.  My Chinese wife will have a child next summer and i want to get Canadian citizenship for the child.  Is it just as simple as filling out an application and sending it to the Beijing embassy?

You asked the same question just over one year ago. Why are you asking again?

i inquired and received a general answer so i was looking for a second opinion.  I didn't know it was 'farcical' to search for specific details, or particular documents in matters concerning family.

i had received very insightful information regarding passport and other procedures.  the info just branched off from my original inquiry which was citizenship onto passports, then childhood education.

Yes, its easy as 123, after the baby is born the doctor will give you the birth form and you will see two small boxes saying: Chinese or Foreigner, select the one you wish, but you'll have to be fast and get your baby setup with a passport, may even have to take the baby home and get the Q visa ready or ask your company to setup the dependent visa  ASAP.

I've heard i need to submit an application for proof of citizenship to the Canadian embassy.  and this takes several months.  after that, i can get the passport.   Is this correct?  In terms of visa, i have been informed i can put the child's name with mine on the police resident form when i renew a yearly contract with my university.

When you say i must be fast, what is the time limit for arranging these docs and repercussions for not doing so?

Much obliged

Much appreciated.
