I've been living in Jinan (Shizhong district) for about two weeks now and I find that listening to recordings over and over aren't really helping. I need someone to converse with and make sure I'm getting tones right and just practice conversational Chinese. I hear that many university students are ready and willing but I want to be clear that I just want to pay someone houry for private lessons, NOT a language exchange. I already teach English all day! Could anyone direct me to how to go about finding someone to tutor me in person? Thanks!

Ask one of your female students, I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige. And pay them an acceptable rate and no hanky panky! Females speak better Chinese because they aren't so guttural in speech and tend to get the pronunciation right.
If I am there.I will be your tudor and make some extra money.

"I will be your tudor"
Are you into the historical dress-up thing? As someone who knows a little bit about British history, I should mention that Victoria was a few hundred years after the Tudors.

Eh, my Mandarine is very bad, Vicky. We can do an exchange, you teach me Mandarine, I teach you Mango.
post a notice in places students hang out like a coffee shop, stating your requirements for a language tutor
you should get a few offers and will be able to make a choice
I'm native Cantonese speaker from Hong Kong. Also speak fluent Mandarin and English.
I need NOT language exchange either. I dislike English corners and any language corners!
I enjoy traveling and meeting new people though.
>>>>> If anyone can show me the China city you live near Shanghai, I can teach Cantonese and Mandarin for free.
