Q: How does the Chinese work ethic differ from the Japanese?
Neighboring countries, lots of cash, yet different cultures. Anyone worked with both types can explain exactly how they differ.
The extreme stereotypes go as follow:
- Japanese is a slave to his work, going 14 hours a day, very dedicated even if not very suitable for a particular job
- Chinese worker also works long hours, is underpaid, doesn't do that good of a job, etc, etc, etc.
I've also heard from people that the best Chinese employees were usually the ones with little experience, coming straight out of university. They didn't have pre-conceptions and bad habits engrained in them, and could be trained properly.

Havin briefly worked in Japan for a few months these are my thoughts.
China: Some Chinese workers are working solely for the paycheck each month with no care in what they are doing for the company doing half assed work that can take a day but they spread it out to a few days. Being seen as busy is a sign of a good worker even though it can be a small task. I have seen some Chinese workers who will go above and beyond on what is required from them and working the longs to achieve this.
Japan: Some Japanese people also do the same work from paycheck to paycheck and would rather go to a "soaphouse" (brothel) during there lunch break. While others want to pursue excellence in all there work working long hours.
