This is now my third Christmas in China, the first one was in Shanghai, last year in Beijing and this year in Beijing again. I have met people this year who are having their first Christmas in China this year and are a little depressed, but I feel used to it by now. The only bad thing is that back home it's summer so everyone is on holiday and at the beach. But the rest doesn't really bother me. So how many Christmases have you had here? How do you feel about it?
1 in Hong Kong, this one is the 3rd one in Zhuhai. Next xmas is planned to be in cold cold cold Scandinavia.
It's the opposite for me, weather wise. Here we can sometimes walk around in summer outfits, while back home people are wearing thick winter jackets.

Ya, I've had this conversation with quite a few people who think that a picnic on the beach on Christmas day seems unnatural. But we grew up that way and that's have Christmas feels... Something to experience for you northern hemispherians...
Scandinavian:
Yup. I have several friends who've skipped on the cold and darkness and gone to Thailand or Hawaii for a week to get away from all the commercial madness. I could easily replace most parts from my traditional xmas with things available on a beach. E.g. an entire pig roasting over a fire could be the main course, and what says xmas more than a gin/tonic with a cherry in it :)
This is my 4th Christmas in Suzhou. However this one is a little depressing as my son has gone off to college in the US. He has been here for the previous 3 with me.

jebus... 15... how has china changed for you over the years?
Ya, that's a tough one @CharlieB... I know it's not the same but you always have Skype, hope it's a good Christmas all the same!
@Sinobear - 15!!
3th Christmas in China, the 2 first were spent completely alone. All of those Christmas were like a normal work day, save from a gift package from my parents. I don't feel sad nor happy about it. The things that made Christmas feels like Christmas for me are not here : Christmas street market, the whole Christmas tree things, the meal with the family, the kids excitement, and most importantly, my family. This evening, will have some pizza, 2nd time in the whole year ^^

My first Christmas in China my roommate and I had McDonalds and then went out partying, Not the usual fair. But I feel like I have more Christmas spirit here than back home where it's over done, here I can make as little or as much of it as I want. And all my friends are without their families too so we are each others families on that day.
3rd Xmas here. first Christmas we went out for hot pot with some foreigners... three years later and we all hate each other now. 2nd Christmas i actually forgot it was Christmas. i was in the middle of fighting with a school and ending a contract so it flew right past. this year has been the most christmassy.. actually bought a tree, bought gifts to put under it.. for the girl friend.. received a package from home, and received some pretty cool presents too..
My 4th one here. I miss the true spirit of this holiday. I feel for those of you who are Christian and miss being at home. For me it is the lack of snow, Snowmen, and large Ever greens.
My 4th coming up. Two in Qingdao and since then, Xinjiang.
Spoke to family yesterday...they were headed down the coast for a few days for some sun and surf, beer and prawns.
I'm going to get a dose of Merry Christmas Mr Bean into myself shortly. Me and a hundred odd students.
tomorrow will be my third, and same as the first, it sucks.
This will be my 4th. Three spent in Hebei. This one in Kunming. It's kinda lonely here at Christmas. I miss my mum and opening presents, and the shitty Christmas TV.
7 years in china but ive been home for two soooo 5. I try to make it christmassey when im here. Usually catered a full turkey dinner and invited my friends over for secret santa and whatnot. This year i saw it snowed in dalian, so i hurried and bought flights. Not much snow... more ice, but its cold as hell compared to shenzhen, booked a turkey dinner with the wifey and try to make it special.

royceH:
