I'm living in a 2BR 1B apartment and I think that our landlord is overcharging my housemates and I on utilities. We were told before moving in that it would be about 200-300 RMB a month but after moving in are getting charged 600 RMB a month. Is this way too much???
i do pay around 300 Rmb every two months without A/C usage. If I use only in my bedroom, goes up to about 700-800 every two months. For the whole apartment, A/C runs maybe 1600 every two months.
Before paying next time, ask landlord to show you the electrical bill. Pay only if shown, and pay whatever it says.
for gas it is maybe 30-50 per month, water is 13 to 17 per month

Is that with the A/C running non-stop (and what city)? Sounds pretty rough. My A/C is the worst-rated and I set it to 26-28 and only use it at night to help me sleep.
HappyExPat:
Yes, that is 24//7, either one unit if only my bedroom, or 5 units for the whole apartment. i do run my units from 26 to 28 depending on outside temperature.
I'm currently in a nice neighborhood in Xi'an.
Here's a rundown of my bills:
Internet/landline: 225
Electricity: 150 (been conservatively using some AC with an unfortunately inefficient AC--it has the worst rating)
Gas (for cooking): 50
Renter's fee: 150 (people who clean the apartment complex--picking up trash, sweeping floors, etc...)
What does your 600 include (and what city)? Sounds a little steep if it doesn't include what I listed.
(since you asked twice)
My old apartment was like 500 to 700 RMB. My new apartment is like 200 to 300 RMB. It just varies quite a bit, I don't know why... maybe it depends on how environmentally friendly the electrinoics and so forth are in the house, mainly the AC.
