guessing pretty reasonable......2bedroom an 2 bathroom .....how much?
The first time I went to Yangshou I was going to stay outside of town because I wanted to tour rural China. I went alone, the day would be peaceful but night boring. I stayed in town and could rent scooters and motorcycles. There is night life in town, it's a big tourist town.
The last time I went, my Gf who often works there, took me to a hotel, directions:: down walking street, left at third street ((maybe second street but the little streets running off Diecui Rd are short)), across one street (Diecui Rd), hotel at end of the street on left side. The were lots of hotels, get prices. I think I paid 160 per night and it was nice. I don't know about apartments. There may be lots of cheaper places, hostels.
My friends had a simple apartment in the complex around 99 supermarket off Diecui Lu, opposite Le Le Ly shop (happy, happy, come!)
Living room, kitchen, bathroom and a massive bedroom upstairs. (quite nice)
About 1600 per month
Muggings had a big room with on-suite shower/squat bog combo.....500 per month
Happy Days!
Why don't you check out the prices while you are there this week? Better getting the information 1st hand.
ganji.com its chinese, but search guliung yangshuo. 2 bedrooms seem to be about 1500 or so a month depending on location and how firm your wooden sofa will be.

I'm sure apartments are cheap there, the issue would be legally living there. Usually there is a reason why a place as beautiful as that has cheap apartments...probably means zero jobs.
im not sure theres a ton of money out there for expensive english lessons so even going the off the books route there still could be a really good reason why an apartment in what seems like such a perfect place (not crowded, western food available, really fucking beautiful) would be so affordable...might really be tough to scrap together 4K a month living there.
Yangshuo is beautiful no question. Are you looking at living there long term and working or just staying for a while. I met a canadian dude runs a climbing tour business out there.
I dont know how many jobs thered be though, its a pretty small place. 1600 per month sounds basically free so you can probably scrap together enough dough to cover that. I wonder tho if there are any schools there that can issue visa...thatd be the only issue!

There is a university there can issue visa. But low paid
Actually the more I think about it the more I realize theres gotta be a good reason why its so cheap to live there. There must be virtually no practical way to legally set up shop there unless youre starting a business.
Think about it...it's probably the ONLY non big city in China where there is actually a western presence and you won't get gawked at by a bunch of jerks. It's in a really beautiful spot.
But theres probably not a ton of money there on the local side to pay for english lessons let alone any possible other type of career if you aren't starting a business which there might not be room for.
If it was that easy to scrape together 3-4K a month and live cheap in a beautiful location...half the people on this site would be living in Yangshuo. There must a good reason why people don't.

Yes, not alot of training centers i guess. But because of the tourism im sure an enterprising enough fellow could make a livibg freelancing with the companies. Although the visa is still an issue as you mentioned. But people try. Yangshuo is kind of famous among the chinese as a place to see poor laowai. Aparently social media ia filled with stories of beggars or people in coffee shops offering to trade english lessons to anyone who will buy them a coffee. Yikes!
expatlife26:
yeah i would figure that you could scrap it together but it wouldnt be easy or legit. thats funny about the poor white people thing. i went there in 2010 i know its a backpacker haven...trading english lessons for coffee is pretty funny.
There used to be many "English Schools" in YS....back in the teach on an L visa days.
Now there are only two decent schools that can issue Z visa and FEC.
Salaries are comparable to rural universities but for 25 teaching hours...but it is adults and 9-5 M-F teaching.
Rent is cheap, good food (Minority Cafe and Kellys)...nice local bars (Alley Bar, Mojos, Kaya and Monkey Janes)
But YS has become more and more Chinese...it used to cater to the backpackers. Now West St is more Pole Dancing (You aren't supposed to wear clothes ladies!) and 100 rmb beer trays for nouveau riche louts.
But it is still a great place to live, teach and relax....get a bike and go into the cuds.
Bloody Marvellous!.....Winter sucks though.

I see it has been a while since you posted this answer, but could you tell me is there are still any schools in Yangshuo? I want to go there for about a year and would like
to go to a school for Chinese language where I could get a student visa. I am having the hardest time finding any detailed information about Yangshuo. Thanks for answering if you can. Dian

The best bet to learn Chinese in Yangshuo is probably this...

They are also an English school to Chinese students. I had friends who worked and studied there and they seemed to think it was ok.
Dunno about the student visa issue, best to discuss with them directly.
Hope that helps..
