Q: How prevalent is physical therapy in China for people who get injured?

If I live in China and play sports a lot, which I love to do, I will get hurt. Will I be able to see a physical therapist to help me get back to full strength? And if there are any, how good is the treatment generally? DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE TO SHARE?

A couple of family members has been in need of physiotherapy. One had lower back pain, she had been going to the same massage-spa for years, the massage-spa assured her she would get better if she came more often. When that failed, she went to a hospital to see a physiotherapist. He seems to have done a decent job on her spine, as it hurt so much she didn't want to go for further treatment and opted to go back to the massage. No one has ever commented to her that her footwear is screwing up her back. Her better half has since realized he would rather have his woman walk in ugly shoes than have her not walk at all. Essentially she got no help from the "professional"

Another family member suffered a stroke. Usually I would expect pretty aggressive physical training to get back on track, but instead was 2 years of hospitalization and doing just a little bit of walking each day. This is an old, but certainly not weak person, as I type she is running around playing with my dog. But because of a very conservative view, she "lost" two years to hospitalization. (also the cost of two years of hospitalization could have paid for a new apartment for her, and an Ayi for the rest of her life, maybe even throw in a car and driver to the equation)

That said. If you get an injury and you go to a hospital, they will help you. If you play sports, you probably have experienced some minor injuries so you already know the basics of treatment. The doctors will be able to help you, but you may need to shop around a bit to find what you would consider qualified help. Not the most fun to do if you are injured. You will in most cases always have the option to fly out of china for a second opinion, e.g. if a knee injury requires surgery according to the Chinese doctor who works on commission)

Scandinavian:

If you often get hurt, maybe consider changing sports. It doesn't have to hurt to be fun.
